Avis

I’ve been increasingly interested in the name [name]Avis[/name] for a girl. In my mind I picture a sweet girl with an edgy side (not necessarily bad though). But what do you guys think of the name? Ay and all opinions are much help!!!

I like it. I don’t love it, but it’s nice enough.

[name]Avis[/name] is a rental car company in the US. So for me it is not usable.

I don’t like it. I think of rental cars too.

[name]Avis[/name] definitely screams “rental car” to me. I love [name]Mavis[/name], though!

Makes me think of [name]Julia[/name] Child’s good friend…

I really like [name]Aravis[/name]. [name]Avis[/name] is nice enough too.

I was my mother’s name so I really love it and encourage people to use it more! Some of my favorite combinations-- [name]Avis[/name] [name]Jane[/name] and [name]Avis[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]. She was a beautiful girl who loved books.

Better than [name]Ava[/name] or [name]Avery[/name] for sure, but I just see “bird” as in “rara-avis.” Falls a little flat for me.

I’m intrigued by Avelina, [name]Aveline[/name], and [name]Avigail[/name] (the Hebrew form of [name]Abigail[/name]!)

I really like it despite the rental car association! I imagine a windswept, outdoorsy child under a gray sky.

The only thing I think of is the rent-a-car. Sorry! It’s not cute at all.

Thank you all!!! I happen to immediatly think of a bird when I hear the name [name]Avis[/name] ([name]Avi[/name]…) And I love that at least some ofyou have found that you like the name. Minus the minimal association with a rental car place…

I like it! Avris as well. I don’t think of rental cars.

I love it, and I live in the US and have somehow never heard of the rental car company. So that may not be a big deal.

I can’t take it serious. I’m from Denmark and avis is the Danish word for newspaper.

My name is [name]Avis[/name], and, in fact, it is a family name, so I am [name]Avis[/name] #4. All of us get the car rental jokes from time to time (I just ignore them or say yeah like the car rental), but I like my name a lot. I feel like it stands out without being overly odd (if that makes sense).

I think it’s very lovely. It’s a nice combination of old-fashioned and nature trendy.

It’s okay. I can’t say I love it… it seems very commercial to me, like most Av- names seem too. And a bit like [name]Mavis[/name] without the M (which is weird, because I don’t like [name]Mavis[/name], or know anyone named it).

I can imagine it growing on me though. It seems like something I’d like after a while.
