Okay, its me again, the one who was asking about [name]Finley[/name] for my little girl. Sorry to monopolize the threads, but my hubby just pointed out that [name]Finley[/name] [name]Kate[/name] with our last name equals the initals
FKR
We also plan to use my maiden name as a second middle which makes the initials FKTR…which is better…but on applications they only ask for one mn or m.i. and I’m afraid her initials will more often be just FKR.
We already told our family we’re using [name]Kate[/name] which honors 7 women in our family (and we’re unsure about using [name]Catherine[/name] with a C because all the women have K for first Initials).
Am I being silly worrying about FKR?? [name]Will[/name] we be able to get by with FKTR often enough that it won’t matter? We thought we had FINALLY found a name we love!!!
Hmmm…that is another dilemma. If I were you, I would use [name]Catherine[/name] instead of [name]Katherine[/name]. Having four initals may be confusing to her and pain legally.
You asked my thoughts on possible boys names…no clue! We already have a son and could only agree on one name at the time. So, I am really hoping it’s a girl. If not, we are back to square one and I will probably being using this site.
I think it’s alright. Well, maybe it depends on if you are into monogramming. I heard it’s extremely popular in the south, but where I live it’s not popular at all. [name]Will[/name] people be seeing her initials all the time? I think a lot of people wouldn’t even notice the issue, since it doesn’t actually spell a word. Also, her initials [name]WILL[/name] be FKTR, so that is what she will most likely write down. Not on every form, but in her personal life. Oh! Or what about naming her [name]Finley[/name] T___ [name]Kate[/name] R____. Initials FTKR are better, and you could still call her [name]Finley[/name] [name]Kate[/name]. Personally I wouldn’t worry about FKR, though.
I know having four initials might be more confusing than 3, but by adding my last name its a lot like hyphenating which many parents do. We’re mostly worried about her having to use FKR (you know, when you make a bracelet with your initials/paint letter to hang over your bed, etc.
We had a boys name and no girls names so I hope you have a better time than us if you do have a boy!
I wouldn’t worry about the initials! [name]Finley[/name] [name]Kate[/name] is a beautiful name, and I honestly think FKR is a bit of a stretch to get to THAT word! If it bothers you that much, why don’t you go with [name]Finley[/name] [name]Cate[/name], and the initials would be FCR?
I dont see the problem. My nephews initials are DVS and no one has ever noticed. His middle name was an important family name. I dont think people pay much attention to initials in the first place.
I don’t think you use your initials (including middle initial) very much in life. I think she would use FR or [name]Finley[/name] K R___ most of the time, so I wouldn’t worry about FKR being a problem.
Well, you all told me what I needed to hear!! After asking some co-workers, I feel better, too. Most said they wouldn’t have thought of it if I didn’t say something. My husband als saif its no big deal to him. I don’t think I’ll put the painted wooden letter above her bed, though…just for my peace of mind!
You probably don’t want to hear this, but I would try not to give her the initials FKR. Kids do pick up on things like that, and what if she ever wants to have anything monogrammed? Growing up I always had jewelry, towels, backpacks, all kinds of things with my monogram on them.
Thanks! We were going to use my maiden name as a mn anyway. My sister and I are the last in our family with the name and I changed my own mn from [name]Kathleen[/name] to my maiden name.
I feel that the [name]Kate[/name] spelling means a lot more to us, and C doesn’t look as good with F.
Thats what I’m afraid of. A friend did point out that mongrams usually look like this: fRk…the last name larger and in the center. At the same time, I was never into mongrams…just the last Initial.
at the end of the day… we all have initials that can be turned into something if we think hard enough… i’m sure there are other people who would have thought DVS stood for something else.
