Which do you prefer? My SO recently said that he really likes [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] because it is a nod to his Turkish/Jewish heritage (also spelled [name_f]Eila[/name_f]), however he likes the sound of [name_f]Isla[/name_f] better. However, both are similar to a name we both love [name_f]Eva[/name_f].
We also love [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], but its much more popular then we realized (I’m not sure about how popular it is in our area, since I am a local teacher and have only heard it once, but it was 15 this year so I’m sure I will soon) so we’re looking at which of these to add to our list in place of [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u].
ETA: Ayla is pronounced like Kayla without the K. That’s how I’ve heard it anyway, and I think in our area that would be a person’s natural instinct.
I like [name_f]Eva[/name_f] best myself. For some reason [name_f]Ayla[/name_f]/[name_f]Isla[/name_f] never appealed to me much. [name_f]Isla[/name_f] is sweet though.
I work with an [name_f]Ayla[/name_f], which is a name I hadn’t heard of previously. I find it to be so pretty. Though [name_f]Isla[/name_f] is beautiful, I think a lot of people would be confused about the pronunciation.
I pronounce [name_f]Isla[/name_f] and [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] the same. [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] was the name of my grandmother from Lebanon, pronounced EYE-la. [name_m]How[/name_m] do you and your husband pronounce it?
Either way, I think my favorite is [name_f]Eva[/name_f]. It’s one of my favorites.
With [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] and [name_f]Isla[/name_f], I suppose you should go with the one that conveys your style the most. For instance, I would imagine and [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] to have siblings with more eastern names like [name_u]Amal[/name_u], [name_f]Mariam[/name_f], Emir, [name_f]Zainab[/name_f]…
With [name_f]Isla[/name_f] I would imagine siblings named [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], [name_u]Rory[/name_u]… names that are more English-language or overall western looking and originated.
I like them all! I can never tell if [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] is supposed to be like [name_f]Kayla[/name_f] or [name_f]Isla[/name_f], but I think it looks pretty, and like the sound of either name. [name_f]Eva[/name_f] is for sure my favorite–I’m a huge [name_f]Eva[/name_f] fan!–but I love [name_f]Isla[/name_f], too, and would like [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] even more if I could figure out how to say it. I think [name_f]Eva[/name_f] seems to go better with your other favorites ([name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_u]Eloise[/name_u], [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], [name_f]Julia[/name_f]), too.
I pronounce [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] and [name_f]Isla[/name_f] the same. If you say [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] as “AIL-a” then I also prefer [name_f]Isla[/name_f].
[name_f]Ayla[/name_f], pronounced the Turkish way, “eye-la” is my favorite of the three (the Turkish meaning is also very beautiful: the halo of light around the moon or sun. Disclaimer: I just looked up the meaning/pronunciation, I don’t speak Turkish). Especially if it has a heritage tie for you, that seems to make it perfect.
[name_f]Eva[/name_f] is really lovely, but it can be pronounced either as Ee-va ([name_f]Eve[/name_f]+a) or the same as [name_f]Ava[/name_f]. If you’re using the second pronunciation it might be worth considering that it will sound the same as the very popular name [name_f]Ava[/name_f] (since you say you’re avoiding [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] due to popularity).
Overall, all three are great names, but [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] stands out to me!
[name_m]How[/name_m] do you pronounce [name_f]Ayla[/name_f]? I pronounce it the same as [name_f]Isla[/name_f], although I prefer the latter spelling much better. [name_f]Eva[/name_f]'s great, too!
I guess all 3 of your choices have multiple prn! But all 3 are so beautiful…
My favorite is [name_f]Eva[/name_f], but I prn it just like [name_f]Ava[/name_f] (which pp pointed out, is v popular @ #4 ranking).
[name_f]Eva[/name_f] and [name_f]Isla[/name_f] are two of my favorites! You cannot go wrong with either one. I tend to lean toward [name_f]Isla[/name_f], because I find that [name_f]Eva[/name_f] can be butchered with pronunciation very easily.
Oh my word I love [name_f]Isla[/name_f], [name_f]Ayla[/name_f], [name_f]Eva[/name_f], [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], and even [name_f]Ava[/name_f], which is not on your list. [name_f]Eve[/name_f] is also similar.
I pronounce [name_f]Isla[/name_f] “EYE-la” and [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] “AY-la”, so they are different to me. [name_f]Isla[/name_f] just like Island, [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] just like [name_f]Kayla[/name_f].
I think my favorite is [name_f]Isla[/name_f], although I’m also a lover of [name_f]Ava[/name_f] even if it is popular.
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] is really pretty and not too common. I know a few [name_f]Eva[/name_f]'s and I think it’s a cute name. I haven’t heard of [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] before. At first I thought it was pronounced the same as [name_f]Isla[/name_f] but then I read the rest of your post. It’s very pretty.
I prefer the pronounciation of [name_f]Isla[/name_f] but I like how [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] looks. You could probably spell it [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] but pronounce it [name_f]Isla[/name_f].
My favourite however is still [name_f]Isla[/name_f].
[name_f]Ayla[/name_f]- This is my favorite out of the names, I absolutely adore it! I know a little girl named [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] and every time I hear it I think it sounds absolutely beautiful.
[name_f]Isla[/name_f]- I like this name, but it is rising in popularity pretty quick. In a few years I can see it being one of the top names.
[name_f]Eva[/name_f]- I don’t like this name very much. It’s too popular for my tastes and I’m always confused on if it’s EE-vah or AY-vah.
I’ve always loved [name_f]Ayla[/name_f]! (pronounced like [name_f]Kayla[/name_f]) I think it’s a beautiful name then [name_f]Eva[/name_f] (pronounced ee-va)
For some reason the name [name_f]Isla[/name_f] has never looked right, but that’s just me! Haha
I think all your name choices are beautiful! [name_f]Eva[/name_f] is my favorite, and while it’s not overly trendy, everyone would be able to spell and pronounce it. Of course that may be either a pro or a con for you, depending on your preferences!
