Ayla-Rue

I’ve had the name Ayla on my list for a while and someone recommended Rue as a middle name for Ayla. I love the flow of Ayla Rue though so thought what if Ayla-Rue was the whole first name. It feels like it just rolls right off your tongue!

What do you think of Ayla-Rue? What comes to mind when you read it? I’m not usually a fan of double barrel names, but do you think this one works? When reading it I was saying it aye-luh-roo, would you pronounce it differently?

Is it pronounced as spelled or like [name_f]Isla[/name_f]? either way I think it’s really pretty. some could find it confusing or that it runs into each other a bit (if you were to use the name for a real person that is) but I still quite like it

I was reading it as aye-luh-roo so slightly different than [name_f]Isla[/name_f]. That’s a good point though that the pronunciation could get confusing. Thank you!

I think [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] and [name_u]Rue[/name_u] work adorably together, but I have seen first hand from my mom’s hyphenated name that it can cause lots of confusion when trying to do business because sometimes online paperwork is made only for letters and having the - in there just doesn’t work. Hopefully, this is becoming less the case as more hyphenated names are used. I do think you could use [name_u]Rue[/name_u] as a middle name and still call her [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] [name_u]Rue[/name_u]. What kind of middle names would you be thinking to go with the first name of Ayla-Rue?

In full honesty, it looks a bit messy to me, but I don’t like the look of hyphenated names. I just much prefer the idea of using [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] (first name) [name_u]Rue[/name_u] (middle name) and just calling her [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] [name_u]Rue[/name_u]! I know plenty of people who go by their first and middle with no difficulty.

I’d pronounce it the same way you do! It feels a bit cutesy with [name_u]Rue[/name_u] but not too much, and definitely on trend!

I’d say it as Ay-luh-roo instinctively (but wouldn’t be surprised by eye-luh-roo). I quite enjoy it and it feels fun and fresh (though it does remind me a bit of Uluru? not a bad thing, but just what I thought)

@Mrs.McDandy Thank you! that’s a really good point about the - making things complicated sometimes. That’s one of the reasons I’ve never been drawn to double barrel names. So that’s really important to remember. Using [name_u]Rue[/name_u] as the middle name and still calling her [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] [name_u]Rue[/name_u] might be the way to go.

@tallemaja I appreciate the honesty! I’m not usually drawn to double barrel names but I liked the flow of this one. But just using [name_u]Rue[/name_u] as the middle name would still essentially be the same effect of [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] [name_u]Rue[/name_u] and we could use both names. Keeping just [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] as the first name would give her the option to use just [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] and not [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] [name_u]Rue[/name_u] as she got older as well.

@Greyblue I hadn’t considered saying it eye-luh-roo but I can definitely see how some people might pronounce it that way! I’ve never heard Uluru but it does sound similar to me as well. Thank you!

I love it. Very sweet. I would just use [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] as the first and [name_u]Rue[/name_u] as the middle.
