What are your thoughts on the name [name_f]Ayla[/name_f]?
[name_m]How[/name_m] would you pronounce it? Eye-la or ay-la?
I love this name but I pronounce it eye-la. I love the sound but dislike how [name_f]Isla[/name_f] looks, so this name is perfect. I believe in Turkey, [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] is pronounced like eye-la, as well as it being pronounced as eye-la in Hebrew. It’s a bonus that the Turkish meaning of [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] is beautiful (halo of light around the moon/moonlight).
Middle name possibilities would be [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] or [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f].
I think [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] rose is beautiful! I say it as ay-la, but I new a girl who spelled it this way but pronounced it eye-la, so I think whatever your preference is is fine. She may have to correct people as she grows up, but that’s the case with any name given the right circumstances.
It is pronounced Ay- Lah, not Eye-La at least thats what some turkish people have said about it so im assuming theyre right hahaha. If it helps i thought it was pronounced just like [name_f]Isla[/name_f] for a bit, but i found that theyre two different names. Also, most people i think will just say Ay-La. Which after all is the correct pronunciation so if you still like it with that pronunciation then go for it, its a beautiful name with a great meaning.
I say eye-la, same as [name_f]Isla[/name_f]. I’ve always seen ay-la as incorrect, so it bugs me when people say it like that, but if that’s something you could live with (plus the constant misspelling), I say go for it. [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is very pretty.
Thank you! I am loving [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] right now. A little hesitant about the having to correct people, but as someone who is an [name_f]Eryn[/name_f] instead of an [name_f]Erin[/name_f], I don’t think it’ll be a huge issue as it really didn’t bother me growing up.
From all the research I have done, I have only ever come across those who speak Hebrew and Turkish people pronouncing it as eye-la so I am almost certain eye-la is the way. I’ve only found (thankfully) a small few who pronounce it ay-la. As [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] in Hebrew is a spelling variant of [name_f]Eila[/name_f] which is pronounced eye-la.

Thats so awesome and funny! most forums I found had people correcting others and saying they were Turkish and pronounced it with an “Ay” thats so curious, but that means that you can pretty much not worry about it and pronounce it how you like since theres so much debate anyway! Either way is beautiful <3, I guess it just comes down to which spelling you prefer
Yeah either [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] or [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]. But since [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is so common as a mn which there nothing wrong with that but I feel like [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] is a bit more refreshing or unique
I also love [name_f]Isla[/name_f] but I’m bothered by the s in the [name_f]Isla[/name_f] spelling. I thought [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] would be an option with the same pronunciation, but then I met a little girl at the market with the name at is was a-la.
In hebrew there is [name_f]Eila[/name_f], which is absolutely eye-la. I would like that, but my older daughter is [name_f]Eliana[/name_f], and I think it might just be too close. It could be a nice option for you.
In my country it’s pronounced eye-la like [name_f]Isla[/name_f], I can’t say 100% sure how it’s pronounced in English, but I have always said it like eye-la
I think the name is absolutely stunning by the way! I love the literary reference to the independent and feisty heroine of [name_u]Jean[/name_u] Auel’s The Clan of the Cave [name_m]Bear[/name_m].

[name_f]Rose[/name_f] is my middle name and my firstborn daughter’s middle name is 99% going to be [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] honours OHs mum, [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] honours my nan. Not sure on whether to just have it as [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], or to have either [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] or [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. I’m not sure on the two Ys in [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f].
@bemylittlebaby: The s in [name_f]Isla[/name_f] bothers me too! I thought of [name_f]Eila[/name_f], it is a clear pronunciation but I love how [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] looks.
When I’ve come across it, Eye-luh seems to be the correct pronunciation, so that’s how I’d say it. I prefer the sound of Ay-luh, but I’d spell that differently. [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is nice.
I’ve known one [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] who said it ay-la, like [name_f]Kayla[/name_f] without the K. That’s how I’d say it unless I was told otherwise. I do prefer eye-la over ay-la.
My [name_f]MIL[/name_f] is Turkish and pronounces it eye-lah, so I assume that’s the proper Turkish pronunciation. When we were having our daughter, [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] was on our long list because it was one of the few Turkish names that we felt would work well in the US.
My go-to pronunciation would be Ay-lah. Eye-lah wouldn’t have occurred to me at all. I’m from NYC - have no Turkish/Israeli connections, so perhaps that makes a difference.
