Azélie

A few questions about Azélie (ah-ZAY-lee).

  1. What are your opinions of it?

  2. What middle name would you put with it? ([name_m]Feel[/name_m] free to look at my signature to get some ideas of names I like, or else just use any name you like best with it!)

  3. Would it be terribly strange of me to have two daughters with acute accents over the E’s in their names? I live in the US and already have an Éva, although most people just end up spelling it [name_f]Eva[/name_f].

  1. I don’t particularly like it. It’s an interesting name, but I don’t like it when people pick foreign names and mispronounce them (btw: it should be ah-zeh-[name_u]LEE[/name_u]). Plus reminds me of the singer [name_m]Iggy[/name_m] Azaela

  2. Azélie [name_f]Sabine[/name_f], Azélie [name_f]Gia[/name_f], Azélie [name_u]Winter[/name_u]

  3. No, not at all, especially since you already have a daughter who uses an accent.

This is the first time I have seen Azélie. I have always liked the idea of [name_f]Azalea[/name_f], but for some reason I couldn’t get on board with it or add it to my list. This sounds and looks beautiful. [name_m]Just[/name_m] as I prefer Ophélie to [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f].

I think many people won’t know what to do with the accent, but you don’t seem overly frustrated by this in Éva’s case. If you are ok with people dropping the accent, and being unsure of what sound it denotes, then I don’t see why you shouldn’t use one. I think it’s crucial to this french name.

I like it and think it goes well with sisters name. Accents may pose a problem and will probably be left out altogether by most people.
From your list I like it with [name_u]Winter[/name_u]. I also like it with [name_f]Noelle[/name_f], [name_f]Siobhan[/name_f], [name_f]Paige[/name_f], [name_f]Snow[/name_f], [name_f]Noa[/name_f]

  1. I like it, it’s not dissimilar to my daughter’s name. The accent is a bit fussy [name_f]IMO[/name_f], but I like it as an alternative to [name_f]Azalea[/name_f]. What about Azalie to get to the pronunciation you like & avoid the acute accent?

  2. Azalie [name_f]Sabine[/name_f]
    Azalie [name_f]Gia[/name_f]
Azalie [name_f]Safira[/name_f] (I prefer this spelling to [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f])
Azalie [name_f]Anja[/name_f] (I like the alliteration)
    Azalie [name_f]Vienne[/name_f]

  3. I don’t think it’d be too strange, but I do think it would be a pain. I’d avoid the accent if you can.

More name suggestions (your style looks somewhat similar to mine… but maybe a bit more french?): [name_f]Astraea[/name_f], [name_f]Athena[/name_f], [name_f]Bronwyn[/name_f], [name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f], [name_f]Elowen[/name_f], [name_f]Esparanza[/name_f], [name_f]Frida[/name_f], [name_f]Gwenyth[/name_f], [name_f]Gaia[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_u]Juniper[/name_u], [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f], [name_f]Luna[/name_f], [name_f]Marina[/name_f], [name_f]Marnie[/name_f], Marzanna, [name_f]Niamh[/name_f], [name_f]Nova[/name_f], [name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_f]Perlita[/name_f], [name_f]Saffron[/name_f], [name_f]Stella[/name_f], [name_f]Ursula[/name_f], [name_f]Valencia[/name_f], [name_f]Ysobel[/name_f], [name_u]Zia[/name_u]

I love it! Such a beautiful name.
From your signature, my favorite combinations are:

Azélie [name_f]Lilia[/name_f]
Azélie [name_f]Cosette[/name_f]
Azélie [name_f]Lilou[/name_f]
Azélie [name_f]Vienne[/name_f]

What about, also,

Azélie [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
Azélie [name_f]Mira[/name_f]
Azélie [name_f]Violet[/name_f]
Azélie [name_f]Novella[/name_f]
Azélie [name_f]Mila[/name_f]

[name_f]IMO[/name_f], i think accents are hard on kids; are you going to try to get both daughters to spell their names using it in school? Are they going to get offended when others don’t use it?

It sounds pretty, but hard to use practically/ in every day life.
Since you already use an accent for [name_f]Eva[/name_f], it only makes sense to use one for daughter #2.

I’m not good with middle names; i tend to like MNs that have relevance, to honor someone. So if there’s any on your list that do, i’d use that.

Not according to this:

  1. What are your opinions of it?

- Azélie has an exotic and mysterious vibe with a European flair.

  1. What middle name would you put with it? ([name_m]Feel[/name_m] free to look at my signature to get some ideas of names I like, or else just use any name you like best with it!)

- I think Azélie [name_u]Winter[/name_u] would be a striking combo. If you want to go all-out in the [name_m]French[/name_m] names, there is Azélie [name_f]Cosette[/name_f].

  1. Would it be terribly strange of me to have two daughters with acute accents over the E’s in their names? I live in the US and already have an Éva, although most people just end up spelling it [name_f]Eva[/name_f].

- If one daughter has an accent, why would it be strange for the second daughter to have one too? However, I don’t know if anyone would use it in the States. Due to the rarity of the name, there may be some pronunciation and spelling issues.

What does it say? I looked at it but don’t think that I found the correction of her previous comment.

  1. I think Azélie sounds and looks pretty but ‘ay’ is not how you pronounce a french ‘é’ (more of an ‘eh’).

  2. Azélie [name_f]Nora[/name_f], Azélie [name_f]Clara[/name_f], Azélie [name_u]Wren[/name_u]

  3. No, not weird at all since your first daughter has an accent as well.

I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] Azélie! Spunky alternative to Amélie. Here in [name_m]French[/name_m]-[name_f]Canada[/name_f] I’d say keep the accent, but it might me more trouble than anything in the states. I’m a bit confused about how to spell out the prn, since the “é” isn’t quite -AY or -EH, but some where in between. The accent is more on the -lee than the -zay/-zeh though. Sorry, I’m pretty bad at explaining pronunciations!

Also, just a note (you may know this already), but Azélie is not the [name_m]French[/name_m] word of [name_f]Azalea[/name_f]. That would be Azalée. [name_m]Just[/name_m] FYI!

Azelie is very pretty. but I don’t even have my American computer set up to type accents. Most people in US will ignore it, but it’s still lovely to have on the birth certificate. Azelie Sebastienne, Azelie [name_f]Calista[/name_f], Azelie Massine…so many lovely options!

It was a link to a Wiki page about a [name_m]French[/name_m] person with her name being that spelling with the accent in that place. I thought the poster was claiming the OP was making up a spelling.

[name_f]EDIT[/name_f]:: [name_m]Ah[/name_m], never mind. I just went back to check it. Seems I read it wrong, it was just the pronunciation she was challenging.

Edited for privacy.

  1. I think it’s lovely. One of my favourite names is [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], which to me has a similar feel to Azélie.

  2. Azélie [name_f]Violet[/name_f] would be nice, although it’s not in your signature I think it has a nice sound about it. Otherwise, Azélie [name_f]Sabine[/name_f] sounds lovely.

  3. No, I don’t think it’s weird at all to use accents, especially if you want it pronounced ah-ZAY-lee. The accent ensures the “ay” sound, so I would definitely put it! Be prepared for mispronunciations, though. Is Éva pronounced AY-va?

Azelie [name_f]Michaela[/name_f]

I like it, but I would use it as a middle

I don’t know about the accent…
