We are expecting baby number 2 in march 2014. This baby will have a sister, Aeralyn [name]Sage[/name]. I am in love with the name [name]Azure[/name]- although it feels much too masculine to be a girl’s name. It sounds like an offshoot of [name]Asher[/name] to me.
We love [name]Azure[/name] [name]Willem[/name] for a boy. Thoughts? [name]Azure[/name] is the energetic color I feel with this pregnancy and [name]Willem[/name] is the name of a very important teacher is my husband’s life.
I’m also a little concerned about folks mispronouncing [name]Azure[/name].
Thanks!
I like it. Mispronunciation might be an issue, but I think it is a common enough color name that most people will get it right. I also love your daughter’s name!
I always found [name]Azure[/name] masculine. I adore it on a boy! It’s on my list. Would love to meet a male [name]Azure[/name]!
I’d assume [name]Azure[/name] was a girl, but it works for a boy, too, especially w/[name]Willem[/name] as a middle name.
I like it for a girl, but it’s fine for a boy. I think it’s rare enough that it would probably need clarification either way, and it does sound quite a bit like [name]Asher[/name]. [name]Willem[/name] is very masculine, so if he doesn’t like his [name]Azure[/name] that’s a good backup. Mispronunciation is a valid concern- it’s bound to happen. I think you’ll get the French-sounding ah-zyur occasionally.
Thanks, everyone! I’m excited [name]Azure[/name] and Aeralyn sound great together when I say it, too. We’re “team green” so I’ll have to wait until [name]March[/name] to know if we’ve got a little [name]Azure[/name]!
My friend’s 13 year old son’s name is [name]Azure[/name]. It’s a great name! He is a cool kid and has lives up to it. I don’t think he’d change it for anything.
Thanks, [name]Meg[/name]! Has he found that people have trouble pronouncing his name at all?
In 2012 there were 32 girls named [name]Azure[/name] and 11 boys named [name]Azure[/name]. Pretty uncommon, and that meets the Nameberry definition of unisex. I associate it as a girls name, probably because that’s the first way I saw it. You’re probably aware, but [name]Indigo[/name] and [name]Cobalt[/name] are other possible boy color names.
To me, [name]Azure[/name] is more masculine than [name]Sapphire[/name] but less than [name]Cobalt[/name].
It does jump out at me that [name]Azure[/name] and [name]Sage[/name] are both colours but I’m not sure that’s problematic, especially since [name]Sage[/name] is a middle name. I have a bunch of colours on my own list so please don’t think I’m hating.
I never thought of it as being unisex but now that you mention it, I think it works perfectly well for a boy!
[name]How[/name] do you pronounce [name]Azure[/name]? I always said it like it rhymed with ‘laser’, but now I’m not so sure.
Anyway, I like it on a girl myself, but it works for a guy as well. Good luck!

It does almost feel like a more masculine version of [name]Asher[/name]. I really like it. It’s got a bit of flair, but it’s still familiar. I quite like it. [name]Azure[/name] [name]Willem[/name] is very nice. Go for it! I think you’ve got a great name there!
I am surprised that there are more girls named [name]Azure[/name] - it reads boy to me.
I’m sure he has encountered a few people but that will happen with almost any name. My name is [name]Megan[/name] and some people still can’t figure out how to pronounce it. (Think ‘meegan’ {shudder})
That’s one of my top names (of course I’d have to choose between [name]Ashley[/name] & [name]Azure[/name] since they’re too close for brothers). It’s unisex but so uncommon that most won’t attach a gender to it. I have the same concern about it being so close to [name]Asher[/name] but since I also love [name]Asher[/name] it doesn’t bother me that much
I pronounce it ‘A (like apple)- jour (like sure with a J)’ and his nn would be Azj
