We are trying to decide what to name our baby! We totally thought it was going to be a boy and just found out this week that we are having our 3rd girl!! We haven’t discussed it at all because we both REALLY thought is was a boy (symptoms wise).
We are having trouble agreeing on a name (which actually hasn’t happened before). The only 2 names I’ve come up with are [name]Zelda[/name] and [name]Fiona[/name]. He hasn’t thrown out [name]Zelda[/name] yet, but I can tell he doesn’t love it.
My husband’s family is Norweign, Danish and [name]German[/name], which is where the other kids names have come from (don’t worry my family is in the middle names:)! We are not stuck with those origins, but would like to have a name that is along the same lines. Not made up, old school, foreign…
I love [name]Fiona[/name]!
I think [name]Freya[/name] would be a great choice, too. I also like [name]Marit[/name], [name]Siri[/name], [name]Elin[/name], [name]Berit[/name], [name]Britta[/name]. I adore [name]Thea[/name] and think it would be great in your sibset.
A friend of mine just named her daughter [name]Signe[/name] (sig-nee), I love that, too!
[name]Lars[/name], [name]Stina[/name], [name]Petra[/name] & [name]Adelaide[/name]
[name]Lars[/name], [name]Stina[/name], [name]Petra[/name] & [name]Anika[/name] (www.behindthename.com says this is [name]German[/name], Danish and Dutch. I learned of the name from a friend who is Swedish, but she spells it [name]Annikka[/name])
[name]Lars[/name], [name]Stina[/name], [name]Petra[/name] & [name]Katherine[/name]
I really appreciate all the feedback!! This is great!
A couple other names I like that keep showing up as suggestions are [name]Nora[/name] and [name]Greta[/name]. I really like [name]Nora[/name], but have a friend who recently named her baby [name]Nora[/name]. I like [name]Greta[/name], but I don’t want her to feel like we gave her an “old” name.
I like [name]Nora[/name] and [name]Fiona[/name] but don’t find them very compatible with your others. I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Astrid[/name] and [name]Greta[/name]. I know a three year old [name]Greta[/name] and don’t find it old at all.
If he’s not sold on [name]Zelda[/name], how about [name]Zia[/name] (pron [name]Zee[/name]-ah) or [name]Zarah[/name] (pron Zah-rah)? I think both options have a similar feel as [name]Lars[/name], [name]Stina[/name] and [name]Petra[/name], and they sound like they could be old but they also sound modern.
I like [name]Fiona[/name] most of your options. Some suggestions:
[name]Elsa[/name], [name]Inga[/name], [name]Tyra[/name], [name]Freja[/name], [name]Anna[/name], [name]Frida[/name], Ingvild, [name]Agnes[/name], Merethe, [name]Signe[/name], [name]Line[/name], [name]Andrine[/name], Unni, Vilde, [name]Malin[/name], [name]Marte[/name], [name]Tilde[/name], [name]Kari[/name].
I especially like [name]Frida[/name] with [name]Lars[/name], [name]Stina[/name] and [name]Petra[/name].
I don’t think of Greta as an “old” name in the slightest! I think of it as a sweet and short form of Margaret.
Another vote for [name]Liesl[/name] and [name]Birgit[/name]. I think [name]Birgit[/name] is fantastic, but it will have a little more pronounciation issues state-side than [name]Petra[/name] and [name]Stina[/name].
If it helps, my daughter’s name is [name]Petra[/name], our first choice for a boy is [name]Larsen[/name] (so our styles are very similar!) and other girls names we are considering are:
[name]Ursula[/name]
[name]Saskia[/name]
[name]Ramona[/name] (doesn’t fit with your sibset I think)
[name]Greta[/name] - but I feel that Greta is much too close to Petra and so won’t use it although I love it. They share all but one letter.
[name]Tirzah[/name]
[name]Birgit[/name] (beer-geet) or [name]Birgitte[/name] (beer-geet-uh)
[name]Sigrid[/name]
Other options already mentioned that I love are [name]Bridgit[/name], [name]Silke[/name], Elsa, [name]Tilda[/name] or [name]Tilde[/name].
