I’m looking for a little help/guidance/brainstorming for little girl (baby #8) due in 5 weeks.
A little backstory and possibly an overshare: she was conceived in [name_m]New[/name_m] Orleans and was a complete shock when we found out the very cool souvenir we had brought back with us!! HAHA!
Having said that, we set out to find a name that had a small nod to our favorite city. We cannot use [name_f]Nola[/name_f], due to it being the name my sister had her heart set on using if she had a girl. [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] is a little too…nature-inspired to go with the rest of our kids names. It IS my favorite flower and we have talked about using it for a middle name, but not a first.
First name cannot start with the following: O, B, P, R, L, C, G and it should preferably be nowhere near the top 100. So, suggestions are greatly appreciated!
SOME names we have considered are: (may or may not have any link to [name_m]New[/name_m] Orleans)
[name_f]Francesca[/name_f]
[name_f]Etta[/name_f]
[name_u]Eden[/name_u]
I like the idea of [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] as a middle name, or use [name_f]Mae[/name_f]/[name_f]Maggie[/name_f] as a nn.
Some names inspired by [name_m]New[/name_m] Orleans…
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]- [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Nell[/name_f] Bridges
[name_f]Marie[/name_f]- [name_f]Marie[/name_f] Laveau
[name_f]Laurel[/name_f]- Uptown street, and tree name
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]- From a poem
[name_u]Payton[/name_u]- [name_m]Saint[/name_m] name
[name_f]Belle[/name_f]- [name_f]Belle[/name_f] Chasse is a suburb of [name_m]New[/name_m] Orleans
[name_f]Holly[/name_f]- Hollygrove
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]- Neighborhood in [name_m]New[/name_m] Orleans
[name_u]Reese[/name_u]- [name_u]Reese[/name_u] Witherspoon
[name_f]Ellen[/name_f]- [name_f]Ellen[/name_f] DeGeneres
[name_f]Ruth[/name_f]- [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] Fertel
I would suggest [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] (close to [name_f]Louisiana[/name_f] or [name_m]Louis[/name_m] [name_m]Armstrong[/name_m]) if you weren’t avoiding L
[name_f]Marie[/name_f] ([name_f]Marie[/name_f] Laveau)
Dauphine (the street)
[name_f]Acadia[/name_f]
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Fleur[/name_f]
Marigny
I don’t think [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] is overly botanical as far as flower names go. To me it’s very “name-y” in the way [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is. It’s not like say, Hydrangea.
My first thought for you was [name_f]Orla[/name_f], but that doesn’t fit with the rules. I like [name_f]Francesca[/name_f], [name_f]Etta[/name_f], and [name_u]Eden[/name_u] as possibilties. Some other possibilities:
Maybe you can use the name of one of the streets in the city, like [name_f]Adele[/name_f], [name_f]Laurel[/name_f], [name_f]Constance[/name_f], [name_f]Thalia[/name_f], [name_f]Julia[/name_f], [name_f]Aline[/name_f], [name_f]Antonine[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Calliope[/name_f], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], or [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]. I love the name [name_f]Francesca[/name_f].
