The book I most enjoyed and was most challenged by was ‘Matrescence: On the Metamorphosis of Pregnancy, Childbirth and Motherhood’ by [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_m]Jones[/name_m]. It’s a blend of research, critical commentary and memoir with some tidbits about the natural world. It has a strong feminist angle and brings up a lot of thoughtful points even though they didn’t all apply to me or my situation. Other books, while informative, were also rather dry.

I agree. I find one of the hardest parts of accepting support is letting go of control. So much of life is out of our control so the decisions you make as a parent feel really important. Letting others help means letting them do some things their own way. That said, it’s also hard to be assertive as a new parent but every challenge can lead to growth.
