Baby boy named Golden? What do you think?

My husband really likes the name [name_u]Golden[/name_u]. But I’m not so sure. We have a friend/his old roommate that has the name [name_u]Golden[/name_u]. He is a tan surfer with blonde hair, so it totally fits him and he said he loves his name and tries to live up to it. I wouldn’t want people to call him [name_f]Goldie[/name_f], and what if he is fair with dark hair? I have been thinking [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] with this boy. We vote on it as a family with our oldest kids, but it’s pretty even. What’s your vote?

[name_u]Golden[/name_u]? or [name_m]Atticus[/name_m]?

mn either:
[name_m]Kent[/name_m] (after my dad, even though I don’t love the name, but i do love my dad) or
[name_m]Wilder[/name_m] (cuz I love it)

last name sounds like [name_m]Anderson[/name_m]

[name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Kent[/name_m]
[name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]
[name_u]Golden[/name_u] [name_m]Kent[/name_m]
[name_u]Golden[/name_u] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]

Any other first name suggestions?

Honest opinions please. Thanks!

[name_m]Holden[/name_m] is a name so [name_u]Golden[/name_u] should be fine…but I just don’t get it or like it. If I knew a [name_u]Golden[/name_u], I’d probably feel differently.

I don’t know if speculating about the child’s appearance is relevant to the name though. Color names are big right now and Hazels don’t have to have hazel eyes; Rubys, Scarletts and Roses don’t need to be red heads, etc.

Of your options, I like [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] (I stumble over [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Kent[/name_m]).

I would use [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_u]Golden[/name_u] and call him by his first name. To me [name_u]Golden[/name_u] sounds feminine, but then a lot of names that people use for guys seem girly to me ([name_u]Cedar[/name_u], [name_u]Sage[/name_u], [name_u]Camden[/name_u], [name_m]Lenox[/name_m], [name_u]Cory[/name_u], [name_u]Rory[/name_u]).

[name_m]Atticus[/name_m] definitely! He will be bullied soooo much if called [name_u]Golden[/name_u] ‘Mummy’s golden boy’ ect. Besides which it sounds very feminine to me. Personally i would keep [name_u]Golden[/name_u] as a middle name or not at all, it sounds like either a celebrity child or a horse

btw [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] is gorgeous!

[name_u]Golden[/name_u] is actually a very classic unisex name having ranked in the US for girls up until 1921 and 1924 for boys. It had always ranked higher on males than females though. I think [name_u]Golden[/name_u] would be a fine name to wear today with football star [name_u]Golden[/name_u] [name_u]Tate[/name_u], giving it it’s celebrity association. Though I prefer the name [name_m]Atticus[/name_m], I find it’s popularity pushing it under for me so I’m going to vote for [name_u]Golden[/name_u] on this one. I think [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Kent[/name_m] ([name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] [name_m]Anderson[/name_m] is too many 3 syllable names for me) or [name_u]Golden[/name_u] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] would be adorable.

I would choose [name_m]Atticus[/name_m], but I also really like [name_u]Golden[/name_u]. We used to have a neighbor named golden (who was pale with dark hair) and the name fit him, he was a really nice guy.

I think [name_u]Golden[/name_u] is silly. Sorry! [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] is stunning!

[name_m]Atticus[/name_m], for sure. [name_u]Golden[/name_u] is rife with potential bullying.

I like [name_u]Golden[/name_u]. I know people are afraid of bullying, but his generation is going to be different. Tons of children his age are being given more unusual names. Plus, kids can bully someone named [name_m]John[/name_m]. I like [name_u]Golden[/name_u] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m], but the suggestion of [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_u]Golden[/name_u] is good, too.

Sorry, but [name_u]Golden[/name_u] would just be too hard to live up to. We never know the personality of the child we’re naming and it may not fit him very well.

I agree with @kjglitter. Everyone cites “bullying” as a reason not to choose a name. I voted for [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] because [name_u]Golden[/name_u] is not my style, but I don’t think [name_u]Golden[/name_u] would be teased just for his name .

Not only would [name_u]Golden[/name_u] potentially have classmates [name_f]Amethyst[/name_f], Otter, Lazslo, and [name_m]Huck[/name_m] (nothing wrong with these names–just pointing out it’s a different naming landscape), but bullying is treated much differently is a post-[name_f]Columbine[/name_f] world. I’m not saying there isn’t still bullying and teasing, but teachers are much better equipped to identify and resolve these problems and most administrations have a zero tolerance policy.

Also, try as a might, I can’t think of a single instance of someone being teased or bullied solely on the basis of their first name.

[name_m]Atticus[/name_m] is a great name and I don’t think [name_u]Golden[/name_u] has a patch on it. [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] is an amazing name, and [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Kent[/name_m] is pretty good too.

While I am not personally a fan of [name_u]Golden[/name_u], I think it could be usable for you! [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] is a great choice as well, though… I really love [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]

[name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] is a perfect combination but I also like [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_u]Golden[/name_u] or just [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Gold[/name_m]. My number one pick for a girl is ‘[name_f]Goldie[/name_f]’ at the moment so I find it difficult to see on a boy but I love [name_u]Golden[/name_u] in the middle spot for a boy or girl. My son has [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] in the middle spot and it’s perfect!

I can’t say I’m all too fond of [name_u]Golden[/name_u] myself, however, I really love [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]!

[name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] is great! As a compromise maybe [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_u]Golden[/name_u] (or [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_u]Golden[/name_u] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m])?

I’ve only heard of one person with the given name [name_u]Golden[/name_u], and that was a man in the first half of the 1900s (and going by [name_u]Spencer[/name_u], [name_m]Ezra[/name_m], and [name_m]Rockwell[/name_m], I think you know who I’m talking about). So, even though [name_f]Golda[/name_f] and [name_f]Goldie[/name_f] are feminine, [name_u]Golden[/name_u] seems more masculine to me. I think it would fit in well enough among all the interesting and different kinds of names being given nowadays, as opposed to the more conservative naming landscape of previous generations. Growing up, I did know kids who were teased solely for their name, but it was as likely to happen because the name rhymed with something (or could be forced into a couplet or teasing song) as that the name itself was odd. It’s not my style, though, so I’d probably go for [name_m]Atticus[/name_m]. I think [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] is a great name, but I’d urge caution on pulling out all the stops if your husband has a favorite and you deny him that and get to choose the middle. I think [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Kent[/name_m], [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m], or [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_u]Golden[/name_u] would all be great names, and [name_u]Golden[/name_u] would be a good name in the first spot, too, if it suits you (or you’re willing to compromise on it). I tend to think [name_u]Golden[/name_u] is a bit more of an outlier name for your kids’ names, as a whole, than [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] would be. But then again, there’s a lady in my church who has boys named [name_u]Nick[/name_u] and [name_m]Troy[/name_m] and [name_u]Legend[/name_u], so there’s that.

I also wanted to add the names of a gorgeous family I know. [name_u]Lucca[/name_u] [name_u]Valentine[/name_u] (girl) and [name_u]Golden[/name_u] Wilde (boy) they really suit their names and the family has a similar naming style to you! [name_m]How[/name_m] about: [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_u]Golden[/name_u] Wilde? It lets you have all your favourites in one name!

While I like the name [name_u]Golden[/name_u] conceptually, and slot it in the same category as [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] or [name_f]Amethyst[/name_f] which are totally usable, unlike other color names I can think of several very NSFW jokes that he’d have to contend with. Maybe you could consider names that mean [name_u]Golden[/name_u]? [name_m]Aurelian[/name_m] is nice…Or [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_u]Golden[/name_u] is lovely!
