We have found out we’re having a boy and the list we had initially has all but disappeared. The only name we kind of agree on at the moment is [name_m]Howie[/name_m] and a few ideas we have floating around are [name_u]Bowie[/name_u], [name_m]Otto[/name_m] and [name_m]Wolfe[/name_m].
We’d like something a little different but not so much he’ll have a hard time at school etc. [name_f]My[/name_f] personal favourites are [name_m]Otis[/name_m], [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] and [name_m]Jenson[/name_m] but my other half doesn’t like them. His favourites are [name_u]Hunter[/name_u], [name_m]Rusty[/name_m] and Reif/Reef. None of which I’m especially fond of for a first name.
Honestly I feel like I’ve searched the internet but I’m not gravitating to any. Before we found out the gender, we both loved the name or [name_f]Elva[/name_f] for a girl. Not sure if this helps! Bub’s surname is [name_u]Lane[/name_u].
[name_m]Howie[/name_m] would be cute on a little boy! If you can both agree on it, I think it’s worthy of contention.
[name_f]Elva[/name_f] makes me think of [name_m]Elvis[/name_m] - which could actually work really well according to your criteria.
It also made me think of [name_u]Alva[/name_u], which makes me want to suggest both [name_m]Alvin[/name_m] (totally works!) and [name_u]Edison[/name_u] (another great option).
Otherwise, your favourites have a strong O and W theme going, and your partner seems to like the R sound. So how about:
I think [name_m]Howie[/name_m] is super cute! It’s not a name you hear very often, but I think it fits really nicely into the not too popular but not too “weird” category.

Update:
Thanks everyone for all of your wonderful suggestions. We had bubs in [name_f]April[/name_f] and he was nameless for a week. His name is [name_m]Caius[/name_m] Reif (first and middle, surname one syllable)
Pronounced Kye-Us [name_m]Reef[/name_m].
We love it. Most people here in Australia haven’t come across [name_m]Caius[/name_m] and so there’s some questions on how to pronounce at times but generally everyone has been very receptive. He’s yet to be shortened to [name_m]Cai[/name_m] but I think that’ll be inevitable when he’s a little older.
