Having trouble settling on a name for our boy due in [name_f]May[/name_f]. Front runners thus far [name_f][/name_f]- [name_m]Rudy[/name_m], [name_m]Oscar[/name_m], or [name_m]Teddy[/name_m] (maybe [name_m]Edward[/name_m] over Theodore)
[name_f][/name_f]
We love cool classic vintage names [name_f][/name_f]- 2 to 3 syllables to suit our short, somewhat abrupt surname.
[name_f][/name_f]
Which do you prefer from our list? Also open to suggestions.
I really love [name_m]Oscar[/name_m], but I’m afraid [name_f]Esther[/name_f] and [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] might sound a bit rhymey together…? [name_m]Teddy[/name_m] would be my second choice.
[name_m]Edward[/name_m] “Teddy” and [name_f]Esther[/name_f] “Esty” sound very sweet together [name_f][/name_f]- not sure how you feel re the matching initials (especially if they have different initials in their nicknames)? [name_f]Esther[/name_f] and [name_m]Rudy[/name_m] are also very sweet together but I agree with @somemelodioussonnet[name_f][/name_f] that [name_f]Esther[/name_f] and [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] a little rhymey.
I’m not the hugest fan of matching initials but do feel better about the T for Teddy… I love the name [name_m]Felix[/name_m] too but can’t seem to win my husband on that one sadly
Thanks for your suggestions. [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] is my all time favourite boys name [name_f][/name_f]- it was our beloved dog’s name who passed away a few months ago so very sadly not an option
I think [name_m]Rudy[/name_m] is my favourite [name_f][/name_f]- slightly quirky like Esther/Esty but totally cool and classic too. I do enjoy [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] too, but I think it’s my second choice as it’s just a little similar to [name_f]Esther[/name_f].
I love [name_f]Esther[/name_f] and [name_m]Rudy[/name_m] together! [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Esther[/name_f] and [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] sound similar, as do [name_f]Esther[/name_f] and [name_m]Edward[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Esther[/name_f] and [name_m]Teddy[/name_m] seem like different vibes (but that doesn’t really matter, they sound great together)
Thanks for your thoughts… I tend to agree and think [name_m]Rudy[/name_m] is rising to the top. I think we were concerned as it’s more of a nickname without a formal name (we don’t like Rudolph) but there’s just something about it we love anyway
[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite is [name_m]Rudy[/name_m]. Agree with others that [name_f]Esther[/name_f] and [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] sound a bit too similar.
[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite from your list is [name_m]Rudy[/name_m].
[name_f][/name_f]
Would you consider [name_m]Rufus[/name_m]? It’s my #1[name_f][/name_f] boy name and [name_f]Esther[/name_f] and [name_m]Rufus[/name_m] have a similar sort of vibe imo!
I ADORE [name_m]Rudy[/name_m]. All of your options are lovely names, but [name_m]Rudy[/name_m] feels like an underused gem of a name to me.
[name_f][/name_f]
I also love [name_m]Edwin[/name_m], it’s my personal favorite of all of the [name_m]Ed[/name_m]- names that could arrive at the [name_m]Teddy[/name_m] nickname. I think [name_m]Edwin[/name_m] and [name_f]Esther[/name_f] sound sweet together, but shared initials might be too much for some people’s taste. [name_f][/name_f]I think [name_m]Edwin[/name_m] could go by [name_m]Teddy[/name_m] or [name_f]Winnie[/name_f].
Here are some thoughts on each of the names you like:
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Rudy[/name_m][name_f][/name_f] – This is my favourite from your list! It’s a charming, underused vintage name with a playful yet grounded feel. It has a similar vibe just like Esther/Esty [name_f][/name_f]- cute and quirky whilst also remaining cool and classic.
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m][name_f][/name_f] – A timeless choice that feels sophisticated yet lively. However, as a few others have mentioned, it does have a bit of a rhyme with [name_f]Esther[/name_f], which may or may not bother you. If you don’t mind the similar sounds, [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] remains a strong, handsome choice with plenty of character.
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Teddy[/name_m] (Edward or Theodore)[name_f][/name_f] – I agree with what @Gingilocks101[name_f][/name_f] said about [name_m]Edward[/name_m] “Teddy” and [name_f]Esther[/name_f] “Esty” sound absolutely sweet together, but the shared E initials might be something to consider. Although since they have distinct nicknames, it’s less of an issue. [name_m]Edward[/name_m] is classic, sturdy, and timeless, with [name_m]Teddy[/name_m] adding an endearing softness. [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] is a great option too, though if you primarily plan to use [name_m]Teddy[/name_m], you might want to consider whether a longer formal name that isn’t often used would bother you. Either way, [name_m]Teddy[/name_m] feels warm, vintage, and effortlessly lovable!

Some more ideas: [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Otto[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Otis[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Simon[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Louis[/name_m] (Louie) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Rufus[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Edwin[/name_m] (Eddie / Teddy) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Leo[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Silas[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Albie[/name_m]
One of my biggest name crushes is [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] but I think [name_f]Esther[/name_f] and [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] maybe too close.
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite would be [name_f]Esther[/name_f] & [name_m]Teddy[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]!
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Rudy[/name_m] is cute but feels more nicknamey with [name_f]Esty[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f]
I think you may also like [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Cecil[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Joseph[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Gordon[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Douglas[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Graham[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Allan[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Gerald[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Bruce[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Howard[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Simon[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Bernard[/name_m] ( secretly crushing on [name_m]Bernie[/name_m] ) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Marshall[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Percy[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Sheldon[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Nelson[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]George[/name_m]
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m] is my favorite of your options so far, but I also love [name_m]Teddy[/name_m]! [name_f][/name_f] I think he makes a great nn for [name_m]Edward[/name_m] or [name_m]Theodore[/name_m].
