HRH [name_f]Princess[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Diana[/name_f] of Cambridge.
The official announcement from [name_m]Kensington[/name_m] [name_m]Palace[/name_m]:
“The [name_m]Duke[/name_m] and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce that they have named their daughter [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Diana[/name_f].”
“The baby will be known as Her [name_u]Royal[/name_u] Highness [name_f]Princess[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] of Cambridge.”
More predictable than I thought they would pick, although I also predicted it would be a beautiful name And [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Diana[/name_f] - a fitting tribute that surprises no one.
Very pretty, if predictable, but I wasn’t expecting much more, although almost immediately the name nerd in me thought [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Diana[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] would have had a better flow. But she’s so adorable, and really doesn’t help with baby fever lol :).
Very pretty, if predictable. But then again, so was [name_m]George[/name_m]. I don’t really see them branching out with any future babies–I think that [name_m]William[/name_m] and [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] both like solid classics.
On a side note, [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is also [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]'s middle name, and [name_m]George[/name_m] and [name_m]Will[/name_m] also share a middle, [name_m]Louis[/name_m]. So there’s some nice symmetry with their naming.
I was also hoping for an [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], although there are a couple young European princesses with similar names – Infanta [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] of Spain, Princeess [name_f]Leonore[/name_f] of [name_u]Sweden[/name_u].
I far prefer [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] to some of the other names that were being tossed about, though, so I’m happy!
I like it! I really thought that some of the less-common possibilities like [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and [name_f]Augusta[/name_f] were going to be just too “heavy” for them. [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] seems a given, an I’m glad that they put [name_f]Diana[/name_f] in the combo. Many people were hoping they would; some thought that it wouldn’t go over with the royalty; some thought that they might just do it anyway. I’m pleased that they did, and I like the full name.
I agree, the flow of [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Diana[/name_f] irks me a bit.
On a side note, glad I took [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] off my list a while ago. It was popular before and now…
I really love the name, and I just knew it was going to be her name. [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is one of my favourite names, I hope to have a daughter of my own called [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] (But being British, it may just be demoted to a middle name now - I’m not one for having names shared with royal people)
I had my reasons to put all 3 names in the combo - [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is [name_f]Pippa[/name_f] Middleton’s middle name, as well as a recorded regal name. ([name_m]George[/name_m] III’s wife [name_f]Queen[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_m]George[/name_m] V’s only daughter [name_f]Princess[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]) [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] as well as being the [name_f]Queen[/name_f]'s name is also an honourary middle name for eldest daughters in the Middleton family. ([name_f]Catherine[/name_f] and her mother’s middle names are [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]). [name_f]Diana[/name_f] was a given to respect [name_m]William[/name_m]'s late mother and her grandmother.
I’m a bit bummed that they didn’t use [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], haha. [name_u]Early[/name_u] on, I actually had [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Diana[/name_f] in mind but scrapped it because rumour had it they weren’t overly fond of honour names.
I think it’s nice. It’s not my style (largely because it’s horrifically old-fashioned here in Denmark) and I think it’s slightly boring that they went for the most popular bet, but I do think it’s very neat. And I’m so thrilled that they chose that over [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], as I mentioned in the other thread, is very much [name_m]William[/name_m] and [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] to me. It sounds like a name they would use. My biggest concern with the name was the following names. I they wouldn’t use [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] without using [name_f]Diana[/name_f] and I thought it only natural for them to use [name_f]Carole[/name_f] as well then which left no room for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. I’m so glad they’ve decided to honour [name_f]Carole[/name_f] and HM simultaneously with [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].
And how neat is this:
[name_f]Carole[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] ([name_f]Diana[/name_f])
I’m a huge royal nut and was so excited for the baby to be born, and to find out the gender and of course her name!
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Diana[/name_f] is a beautiful name, very royal and elegant and regal! It is rather predictable and not as exciting as I’d hoped, but totally fitting for a princess.
I would have liked to see something more “unusual”, a name that hasn’t been used in the royal family for awhile (though [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] hasn’t), like [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Helena[/name_f], or [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]. But given their personalities (their public personas, at least), [name_m]William[/name_m] and [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] do seem like the type to prefer classics and be conservative in naming even by royal standards.
My pick was [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Diana[/name_f], so not far off, haha. I figured/hoped there would be a nod to the [name_f]Queen[/name_f] and to [name_f]Diana[/name_f], but [name_f]Diana[/name_f] would never go as a first, and I read that the [name_f]Queen[/name_f] didn’t want great-granddaughters given her name as a first.
It’s great that she has her own (first) name, but that the combination pays tribute to so many important people on both sides of her family. It helps that there are so many repeating/similar names within and on both sides of the family!
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Diana[/name_f] is a beautiful choice, a name indeed fit for a princess. However, I am not extremely impressed as I was hoping for a little [name_f]Victoria[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f] or [name_f]Helena[/name_f]. I do think they did good job honoring everybody though.
I think it is beautiful- [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] was one of my first ever name loves, and it never gets old. It is a fantastic classic and lovely combination for a gorgeous baby.
I’m delighted they did a complete up front honour of [name_f]Diana[/name_f]. I am a bit disappointed with [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] though. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it but I don’t find it exciting at all.
