[name_u]Baby[/name_u] number two is due any day now, but I am feeling completely overwhelmed about choosing a first name for a boy or a girl. My son is called [name_u]Elliot[/name_u], which we love, and I have a picky partner who would prefer to avoid the names of kings, queens or saints. Being australian he is conscious of names that can easily be abbreviated and do we would both like to avoid names with peculiar spellings. I am English, so perhaps have a different take on things.
So far, the only girl’s name I have come up with is [name_f]Alice[/name_f], which I like but he is not blown away by. And we are a bit hopeless with a boy’s name as well… Perhaps the only contender being [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]. But I am not convinced.
I would so welcome any suggestions as I feel I have lost my mojo. Nothing too outlandish, but nothing too popular either.
Does [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] go by a nickname? If he is ever called [name_f]El[/name_f] I wouldn’t use [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. [name_f]El[/name_f] and [name_m]Al[/name_m] are too similar in my opinion. [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] is a great name! It’s a strong and classic choice. [name_m]Will[/name_m] the nicknames [name_u]Ari[/name_u], [name_m]Thor[/name_m] or [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] make you a like it more?
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] seems a bit close to [name_u]Elliot[/name_u], but not too much and I do like [name_f]Alice[/name_f] as well as [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]. While don’t think there have been any Queens named [name_f]Alice[/name_f], there are a lot of princesses and I’m sure probably a saint somewhere. Also, as you are probably aware, there is a [name_m]King[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m].
Thanks everyone, you guys were uncannily spot on with my taste in names. I really appreciate your help. Hopefully the pressure of having a baby will help us decide,
