I thought we had settled on [name_m]Felix[/name_m] [name_m]Noble[/name_m] for [name_m]Abel[/name_m] & [name_f]Olive[/name_f]'s little brother, but as great as the name is, it still hasn’t felt like THE NAME.
Might seem like it’s coming from left field but our leading name right now is [name_m]Elmer[/name_m]. We are thinking [name_m]Elmer[/name_m] [name_m]Fox[/name_m]. [name_m]Elmer[/name_m] was my great grandpas name, and while I never met him, I hear he was a great guy. I like that it’s another vowel name and softer sounding on the ear, and that it’s an old and underused name, and has the potential for the nn [name_u]Elm[/name_u].
What do you all think? I compare it to [name_m]Henry[/name_m] which is ragingly popular, but I prefer [name_m]Elmer[/name_m] to [name_m]Henry[/name_m].
It does seem like a grandfatherly name, but the [name_u]Elm[/name_u] nn potential is making it feel a lot fresher, I’ll admit. [name_m]Felix[/name_m] [name_m]Noble[/name_m] is a handsome combo, but if it’s not doing it for you, [name_m]Elmer[/name_m] [name_m]Fox[/name_m] is a great alternate combination. Altogether the fn/mn have a gentle, rustic feel.
I think [name_m]Elmer[/name_m] is absolutely wonderful with [name_m]Abel[/name_m] and [name_f]Olive[/name_f] - it has just the right number of repeating sounds, without feeling too matchy or too close. Stylistically, it’s definitely got that off-beat, vintage, slightly clunky appeal of your other kids’ names, and I think [name_u]Elm[/name_u] is a fantastic nickname which feels really soft, fresh and cool.
I really love [name_m]Felix[/name_m] too but it is perhaps a little “spiky” next to [name_m]Abel[/name_m] and [name_f]Olive[/name_f]. I think [name_m]Elmer[/name_m] sits better in the sibset, plus it has that family connection going for it which makes you unlikely to regret choosing it [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. [name_m]Elmer[/name_m] [name_m]Fox[/name_m] is a great combo which still retains something of the sound of your previous favourite, [name_m]Felix[/name_m].
ETA: [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have [name_m]Elmer[/name_m] the Patchwork Elephant in the US? It was one of my favourite picture book series when I was little and has been a hit with my daughter too - it’s also got a great moral message about being yourself, accepting others for who they are and not being afraid to be different. That might be a sweet thing to read to him when he’s old enough
[name_m]Elmer[/name_m] sounds great with [name_m]Abel[/name_m] and [name_f]Olive[/name_f]. To me it’s not a grandfatherly name because I read [name_m]Elmer[/name_m] to my daughter (we are also based in the UK), which is why the name is familiar and has good connotations for me.
Sorry, this is my personal opinion, but I don’t find [name_m]Elmer[/name_m] a pleasant sounding name at all and feels old and dusty. I love [name_m]Felix[/name_m] though. I do like [name_u]Elm[/name_u] if there was another name that [name_u]Elm[/name_u] would work at a nickname for, or I think [name_u]Elm[/name_u] can stand on its own as a nature name and [name_u]Elm[/name_u] [name_m]Noble[/name_m] is handsome!
I love it. [name_m]Elmer[/name_m] [name_m]Fox[/name_m] is 100% my style, plus [name_m]Abel[/name_m], [name_f]Olive[/name_f] and [name_m]Elmer[/name_m] sounds like THE perfect sib set. [name_u]Elm[/name_u] is a very nice nn, so I’d say go for it.
I love it. [name_m]Elmer[/name_m] [name_m]Felix[/name_m] would also work. I think [name_m]Elmer[/name_m] is great on its own and doesn’t need a nickname. Using [name_u]Elm[/name_u] does make it sound new and fitting with the trend of today, though.
My first thought was [name_m]Elmer[/name_m] Fudd. Aside from that, it feels super clunky and old man-ish (but not in a hipster or vintage cool way) to me…my personal opinion is that it wouldn’t be the easiest name for a child to wear.
I’m not generally a fan of [name_m]Elmer[/name_m] but I find [name_m]Elmer[/name_m] [name_m]Fox[/name_m], nn [name_u]Elm[/name_u] rather endearing. The idea of [name_m]Abel[/name_m], [name_f]Olive[/name_f], and [name_m]Elmer[/name_m] as a sibset is fantastic!
I’m sorry but I cannot get behind [name_m]Elmer[/name_m]. I personally do not like the sound and I can only think of [name_m]Elmer[/name_m] Fudd and glue.
[name_m]Felix[/name_m] [name_m]Noble[/name_m] is very handsome. Maybe [name_m]Felix[/name_m] [name_u]Elm[/name_u] “[name_u]Elm[/name_u]”.
My first thought was [name_m]Elmer[/name_m] Fudd…but that being said, I don’t think it’s not usable.
I think it sounds fantastic with [name_m]Abel[/name_m] and [name_f]Olive[/name_f], and fits right in…and it’s an added bonus that it’s a family name
