Baby girl Allie

So for our second baby we have decided on the name [name_u]Allie[/name_u].
We love the name, we think it’s so sweet and it feels right for us. But is [name_u]Allie[/name_u] usable as a full name? I don’t like [name_u]Allison[/name_u]/[name_f]Alison[/name_f] that much, my husand doesn’t like [name_f]Alice[/name_f] either which would have been my first choice.

Part of me wants to just use [name_u]Allie[/name_u] but I feel like it needs a fuller name. Or does it if she’s just going to go by [name_u]Allie[/name_u] all the time?

I thought I’d ask on nameberry for advice - I lurk the forums for name ideas (you all have great taste) and I’ve seen you all give great advice.

thanks in advance for the help!
PS [name_u]Baby[/name_u] girl is due in [name_u]January[/name_u] so we need to decide quickly! So nervous

ETA the only other name we’ve got is [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] NN [name_f]Mady[/name_f]/[name_f]Maddie[/name_f]. The [name_u]Lyn[/name_u] spelling honors my husband Mom [name_f]Marilyn[/name_f] who passed last year so it doesn’t bother me although I do prefer the [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]/[name_f]Madeline[/name_f] spellings. It has a lot of meaning so I’m happy with the ‘trendy’ spelling. She was an amazing woman

I like just [name_u]Allie[/name_u], especially if that’s all she’ll be called! I know someone who is just [name_u]Allie[/name_u], and she’s about 30 now, and wears it well.

If it helps though, my middle name is [name_f]Alannah[/name_f], which comes from an Irish/Gaelic (not entirely sure which) word meaning ‘darling’ or ‘beautiful’.

[name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] is also pretty, and I love [name_f]Maddie[/name_f], it sort of depends on what your other child’s name is!

I like ‘just’ [name_u]Allie[/name_u], but other ideas are:
[name_f]Alexa[/name_f]
[name_f]Alexia[/name_f]
[name_u]Alexis[/name_u]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Alicia[/name_f]
[name_f]Alisha[/name_f]
[name_f]Alair[/name_f]
[name_m]Alain[/name_m]
[name_f]Alana[/name_f] (I know one)
[name_u]Alden[/name_u]
[name_f]Allegra[/name_f] (I love this one!)
[name_f]Alma[/name_f]

I think that longer names like [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] would get shortened to [name_u]Alex[/name_u] or [name_u]Lexi[/name_u], so it wouldn’t work.

I specially love [name_f]Allegra[/name_f] [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f], nn [name_u]Allie[/name_u]. [name_u]Allie[/name_u] comes naturally, it is a more unexpected first name and you get to honor your mom.

I like [name_u]Allie[/name_u] [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f]. [name_u]Allie[/name_u] can definitely work as a full name and you don’t have to use a longer name if you don’t want to

It can definitely be used on its own. I know a few people who are [name_u]Allie[/name_u], including my younger cousin. She is 11 now, but we used to call her allie-gator and she loved it.

Thanks! I think I would prefer to use it on its own as I have a longer name with a nickname and I never use my full name. Seems a bit like a waste of name, if that makes sense. DH says if [name_f]Betsy[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] etc work then why not [name_u]Allie[/name_u]? He’s right of course.

I like [name_f]Alexia[/name_f], [name_f]Alana[/name_f], [name_f]Allegra[/name_f]. Although [name_f]Allegra[/name_f] reminds me of the allergy medicine.

My older child is a boy, he’s called [name_u]Evan[/name_u]. I’m not too worried about how baby girls’ name sounds with his but obviously not to similar (which is why [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] was off our list - even though I adore it. Wayy to close.)

I like [name_u]Allie[/name_u] as a full name!
