My husband and I are expecting our first child - a girl - in six weeks! We’ve been talking about names a lot, and we don’t agree on much. What we do agree on, we don’t absolutely love. We seem to be drawn to longer ethnic names (which go with our heritage and our last name) or short vintage names.
Our Top Two:
[name_f]Francesca[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] (nicknamed [name_u]Frankie[/name_u]) - - we both love [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] because both of our dads are named some variation of [name_m]Frank[/name_m], and we love that she would have that connection to both sides of our family. We don’t love [name_f]Francesca[/name_f], but it’s our favorite long form and we don’t want to name her just [name_u]Frankie[/name_u].
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] - - I was shocked when my husband brought up this name, but I like it! Pearls have always been my favorite gemstone, and my husband has bought me a lot of really special jewelry over the years that have pearls in them, so it seems like a sweet connection.
Some other names we’ve considered (but are lower on our list) include [name_f]Lilah[/name_f], [name_f]Nicolina[/name_f], and [name_f]Tatiana[/name_f].
So which do you like best? Am I missing anything about why one of these names might not work? Any other suggestions for us?
I love [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] nn [name_u]Frankie[/name_u]!! It’s both beautiful and spunky! Plus, it’s hard to honor both sides of the family with one name. I wouldn’t give up the opportunity.
I really like [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] as well but not as much as [name_f]Francesca[/name_f].
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] and [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]. You can not go wrong with either. Like pp says though, finding a name with a connection to both sides of the family is hard so I think [name_f]Francesca[/name_f].
I know a little [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] nn [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] and she is adorable. I love how her name has both a feminine and tomboy element.
Good luck!
I love the name [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] for a little girl. (Although I’d use [name_u]Francis[/name_u], I happen to love it). But [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] is very pretty.
I also love [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], but am not crazy about the combination [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f]. It sounds like [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] Animé. Personally I’d love [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], “[name_u]Frankie[/name_u] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f].” Then you get both the name you love and that sweet connection to your favorite gem.
Congrats!
Here’s another vote for [name_f]Francesca[/name_f]. I also agree that [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] “[name_u]Frankie[/name_u] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]” is super adorable, but it’s also classic. [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] does not work for me, either. I hear ‘anime.’
I love the name [name_f]Francesca[/name_f]! And the nickname [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] is great :). [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] is beautiful
[name_f]Francesca[/name_f] nicknamed [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] sounds perfect! Is [name_f]May[/name_f] set in stone for the middle? You could still use (as others have suggested) [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] as the middle name since it is sentimental for you.
Also, if you’re open to [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] as a double-middle name, maybe you could use [name_f]May[/name_f] and [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] both in the middle for [name_f]Francesca[/name_f].
Thanks everyone! [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] is an honor name for my husband’s beloved aunt. I hear anime too, which is why I vetoed it for a first name. I prefer just [name_f]May[/name_f], just [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] doesn’t flow, so I agreed to put the [name_f]Anna[/name_f] in there.
However, I just told him the suggestion of [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], and he liked it! Maybe that name will be the winner!
Another vote for [name_u]Frankie[/name_u]! I love [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] and think it pairs well with all the other names on your list, should you ever have another girl to name. I also love the suggestion of using [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] in the middle!
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] means [name_f]Grace[/name_f]. What about [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f]? Also I’d vote for [name_u]Frankie[/name_u]. I don’t like [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] but that nickname is gorgeous.
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] for me, too! I, too, hear “anime” with [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f], but that doesn’t make me like it any less. I’ve really come to love [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] in the last few months, too. Is [name_f]May[/name_f] significant? You could probably solve this problem with something like [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f], although I’m super biased, because [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] is one of my favorite [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] combos. I also think [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] would be gorgeous. I’m not a huge fan of [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] names (on a boy or a girl), so [name_f]Francesca[/name_f], [name_f]Francine[/name_f], [name_f]Frances[/name_f], [name_u]Francis[/name_u], Fransisco, etc., all don’t really appeal to me, but [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] does sound nice and I like that it’s significant to your family. [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] would also be very pretty. Regardless, [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is my favorite.
[name_f]Francesca[/name_f] is beautiful and if one day you do feel that you grow out of calling her [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] she has many more nickname options to choose from!
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] seems to drag [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] into a old-timey territory, almost like a caricature.
I think [name_f]Nicolina[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] would be the prettiest name, and after that [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] would be truly lovely! [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] is also nice. At first I thought [name_f]May[/name_f] was too short but it’s grown on me quickly.
