Baby Girl due in 3 weeks!

Back in the [name]Summer[/name], before I found out I was pregnant I met a little girl named [name]Ayla[/name]. I had never heard the name before, but I loved it and filed it away as a possible name option when I had a baby. Fast forward to week 14 of my pregnancy (before we knew we were having a girl). I suggested the name to DH and he loved it. He chose the middle name [name]Jane[/name], after his grandmother who passed away a few years ago. For a while that was our only choice, but now that we are getting closer I just want to make sure it’s the right one!! We haven’t told anyone the name…we didn’t want opinions from family and friends lol. I originally loved the name because it is so unique, but I have since heard of a few other little girls with the name. I thought it sounded classic yet unique, but do any of you think it sounds trendy??

long post…sorry…just wanted to know your thoughts on [name]Ayla[/name] [name]Jane[/name]. Thanks!

Well, it just reminds me of this recent kidnapping case in [name]Maine[/name], USA. It seems sad to me now.

It actually is becoming very trendy, but the more popular spelling of it is “[name]Isla[/name]”. It’s something that we too are considering for our 2nd daughter due in may. But I have some reservations b/c of how quickly the name is rising in popularity.

I love the connection of [name]Jane[/name] to his grandmother. I’ve always been a bit hesitant about [name]Ayla[/name], though. With its resemblance to [name]Kayla[/name], [name]Layla[/name], etc. it has always felt pretty trendy to me (especially with that trendy “Y”!), but it does have a pretty sound… which brings me to my second problem–it’s pronunciation! I’ve heard pretty much equally that it sounds like [name]Isla[/name] (EYE-lah) and [name]Kayla[/name] without the “K”, so I am really confused as to how it’s supposed to be said. I’d finally gotten to the place where I assumed people mostly said it as AY-lah (in which case I was going to mention that [name]Ayla[/name] [name]Jane[/name] is a bit “AY” heavy in sound, but the family connection totally makes it worth it), but then with @slootymama’s comment I am confused all over again! It’s just too much hassle for me and its trendy appearance puts me off. I would opt for [name]Isla[/name] [name]Jane[/name] personally.

You obviously love [name]Ayla[/name] [name]Jane[/name], though. I would ask for other suggestions, just to make sure you don’t find anything you like more, and if you still love it as much as you did before you started out, I would stick to [name]Ayla[/name] [name]Jane[/name]!

Good luck!

I agree with pp’s - if you are having doubts, how about going with [name]Isla[/name] [name]Jane[/name] or [name]Ava[/name] [name]Jane[/name] instead? That being said, [name]Ayla[/name] [name]Jane[/name] is a very pretty name. I love the connection to your DH’s grandmother.

thanks for the advice! I still love the name, but am hesitant because of pronunciation and the possibility that it may be too trendy. I love the middle name [name]Jane[/name], and I am revisiting some of the names on my old list. What do you think of these?:

[name]Annelise[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Jane[/name] (nn [name]Evie[/name])
[name]Eva[/name] [name]Jane[/name] (I really like [name]Ava[/name], but it’s too popular for me)
[name]Sophie[/name] [name]Jane[/name] (also a bit too popular but I like it)
[name]Adeline[/name] [name]Jane[/name] (nn [name]Addie[/name])
[name]Lydia[/name] [name]Jane[/name]

I also really like [name]Elle[/name], but can’t think of a middle name. Any suggestions?

thanks!

I love it! Sounds beautiful!

I love [name]Evie[/name], [name]Eva[/name], [name]Sophie[/name] and [name]Adeline[/name], but I’m not a big fan of [name]Lydia[/name] or [name]Evelyn[/name], they sound a bit harsh. What about [name]Elle[/name] [name]Annalise[/name] or [name]Elle[/name] [name]Sophia[/name]?

I love all your other options!

[name]Annelise[/name] [name]Jane[/name] - this is perfect, imo. I love the sweet [name]Anneliese[/name] (prefer this spelling) paired with the classic [name]Jane[/name]. I would be so impressed to see a little girl with this name.

[name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Jane[/name] - I don’t like the repeated “N” endings but I do love both names! Maybe [name]Evelina[/name] [name]Jane[/name]? I think that’s a bit more unexpected. [name]Evie[/name] is adorable. I think [name]Genevieve[/name] [name]Jane[/name], nn [name]Evie[/name], would be another nice option.

[name]Eva[/name] [name]Jane[/name] - I like [name]Eva[/name], but don’t love it. I prefer [name]Eve[/name], personally. [name]Eva[/name] [name]Jane[/name] is a bit too short for me, too, but still nice.

[name]Sophie[/name] [name]Jane[/name] - love [name]Sophie[/name]! I know it’s very mainstream, but still utterly perfect, imo.

[name]Adeline[/name] [name]Jane[/name] - I like this a lot… sorry, but I have pronunciation questions here, too! Is it [name]ADD[/name]-ah-line, [name]ADD[/name]-ah-leen, or [name]ADD[/name]-ah-lynn? I can never tell!

[name]Lydia[/name] [name]Jane[/name] - so sweet. After [name]Anneliese[/name]/[name]Annelise[/name], this is my favorite. [name]Lydia[/name] is so sweet and literary and Biblical, and I would love to meet a little [name]Lydia[/name]. I think the nn [name]Lydie[/name] is sweet, too.

What about a longer feminine version of [name]John[/name] (like [name]Giovanna[/name] or [name]Johanna[/name]?) with [name]Elle[/name]? [name]Elle[/name] [name]Johanna[/name]? [name]Ella[/name] [name]Giovanna[/name]? or a second mn, like [name]Elle[/name] [name]Felicity[/name] [name]Jane[/name]?

I think [name]Ayla[/name] [name]Jane[/name] is very nice and if you like it, you should use it! [name]One[/name] other possibility that might work is [name]Avis[/name] [name]Jane[/name].

I actually like [name]Ayla[/name] better than [name]Isla[/name] ! I never understood the [name]Isla[/name] spelling anyway!!! [name]Ayla[/name] [name]Jane[/name] is very pretty! If you love it go for it! As for it being trendy, maybe, it goes against the mainstream spelling and has a y in it! I wouldn’t let that deter you tho!
