Baby girl McCall?

I just want some feedback on the name McCall for a little girl (possibly spelled [name]Michal[/name]?). It has been in my mind lately and it isn’t on this website to get nameberry’s take on the name.

What do you think?

McCall isn’t on nameberry because it’s one of hundreds of [name]Mac[/name] surnames, which we’ve written about in the past as being appealing as first names. A few, [name]Mackenzie[/name] and [name]McKenna[/name] and [name]Macauley[/name], have been used more widely as first names. McCall is a Scottish patronymic (father-oriented surname) meaning “son of [name]Cathal[/name].” It’s an attractive name though I’d guess that many people would confuse it with [name]Macauley[/name], as in child star Culkin.

I would NOT spell it [name]Michal[/name] unless you really want it to be a totally different name: the Biblical [name]Michal[/name], pronounced similarly, is the daughter of [name]King[/name] [name]Saul[/name] and the wife of [name]King[/name] [name]David[/name].

I don’t really like the name McCall mainly because I have never heard it before. I think it really looks like a last name. Sorry!

I think it’s an adorable name! I also like the spelling McCall over the other…

I know a girll with this name. I like it!

Sorry, I think it’s awful. So many interesting and pretty names to choose from, why this?

Though I am not normally one for Mc- names on girls, I do quite like this one. I went to high school with a girl named McCall, which was apparently her mom’s maiden name. We called her [name]Callie[/name] She was a very nice, very friendly girl, so I can’t help but picture a little sweetheart with this name!

I think I would pronounce [name]Michal[/name] like [name]Michael[/name]. Stick with McCall if thats what you want

I like McCall. I agree that [name]Michal[/name] looks too much like [name]Michael[/name] and would probably be pronounced as such. Would you give a nn to McCall? [name]Callie[/name], [name]Micky[/name]…?
I will admit that it reminds of the McCall’s pattern company.

I ‘get’ that [name]Mac[/name] names are trendy, but I can’t see the appeal of this for a little girl. Not only because of the blatantly masculine ‘son of’ meaning, but also the abrupt sound. I keep hearing ‘shrieking macaw’

I would go for the spelling [name]Michal[/name] because at least that has a feminine stamp behind it.

Hello, my name is McCall. I am a girl, seventeen years of age & i think my name and the name McCall is an awesome name. Not just because it is my name, because it is a very pretty and unique name. I personally know no one named McCall except for myself. Good luck with the naming

My little girl is named McKahl (pronounced McCall). I love the name for a little girl! [name]Even[/name] though it has a meaning of ‘son of cathel’ it also means ‘Battle Chief’ ‘Chief’ and I loved that, I know she will be a great leader some day with knowledge and direction and will fight for what she believes in.

im sorry but this really is a last name only one i know a large family with this last name try something else look at scottish themed names if u like it alot

Unless it’s your maiden name or a surname from your close family… I don’t like it. I just am not a fan of surnames if they mean nothing to you other than you like it. Plus… I just don’t do Mc/[name]Mac[/name] names… I just don’t like them for girls. I think a boy of a(n) Irish/Scottish/whathaveyou background could pull of carrying a surname of their family as a first name very nicely, I just don’t ever think it works for girls… especially ESPECIALLY if the name means nothing.

Sorry. There are so many beautiful, real names out there, I hope you find something else you like.

Seeing this is the only time you posted, it must be VERY interesting for you to see your name on here as a potential baby name!

I know a girl with this name, she spells it Mekall and I love saying her name! Very unique

[name]May[/name] daughter’s name is McCall [name]Marie[/name] Lemmons and anyone who has ever heard her name including complete strangers always tell her it is a movie star name. It doesn’t matter whether or not it is a surname so you can like or dislike all you want but it is unique and if you name your girl McCall it is likely she will be the only one for miles around to have it. My daughter is 17 now and adores her name, can any of us say the same for our own names? I say go with it you daughter will love you for it!

I like [name]Michal[/name] better than McCall. Sorry.

Bit different than McCall although pronounced the same. It is not for everyone…however, I loved it the first time I heard it, which was about 10 years before our little girl was born.

I think you can also find some roots in “creativity” in addition to “strength.”

[name]Just[/name] be ready to get everything custom made.

Nickname is [name]Callie[/name] - although I don’t use it. Others do.

Not a fan of McCall . Your daughter will have to tell everyone which name is first and last.

I know a [name]Michal[/name] but she always has to correct people ghat she is a female and it’s Mee-Kahl.

I like [name]Michaela[/name]
