[name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I are expecting our second baby girl in [name_m]August[/name_m]. Our first daughter’s name is [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f]. We would like to find a first / middle name with a similar feel for her baby sister but not too similar sounding. I grew up with a very similar name to my sister which caused people to accidentally mix up our names. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband is Latvian so we’d want the name to end in an -e or -a so it would work in both languages. Our daughter will be a dual citizen of both countries. The first name shouldn’t be in the top 10 most popular names. Our last name is Mirkss.
Names we’ve been considering so far for first or middle names…
I’m assuming based on your specifications that [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] are more middle name territory due to their popularity (if you’re in the US?) A combination like [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] / [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] / [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] or [name_f]Adele[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] would be my top choices for you! [name_f]Lola[/name_f] is a bit too close to your daughter’s name and [name_f]Louise[/name_f] seems like a bit of a style departure for a first name. [name_f]Lily[/name_f] would fit well with your daughter, but has been quite popular for a while and may not work as well in Latvian?
[name_f]My[/name_f] first thought with [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] was [name_f]Oona[/name_f] (Una) [name_f]April[/name_f] or [name_f]Oona[/name_f] (Una) [name_f]Avril[/name_f]. Though from your stipulations a middle name ending l may not work. [name_f]Oona[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f] might be too similar to [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f]? [name_f]Olive[/name_f] would be another vowel middle name that would perfectly balance [name_f]Elise[/name_f] but would need a different forename.
[name_m]Welcome[/name_m] & congrats on baby girl #2!
[name_m]Just[/name_m] so you’re aware, [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] are both in the top US10 as of 2022 (last year’s list hasn’t been released yet).
A few more uncommon contenders that fit (feel free to mix and match):
It sounds like you prefer more traditional, vintage names.
Given that you want to avoid anything in the top ten, assuming you are in the United States, I would cross off Charlotte and Amelia for first names. However, they are still fine as middle names. I would also cross off Louise as a middle name because sister’s middle name is Elise.
I think [name_f]Lola[/name_f] and [name_f]Lily[/name_f] are too close to [name_f]Isla[/name_f] (and Elise) especially in first spot. I’m not super keen on [name_f]Adele[/name_f] - much prefer [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] & [name_f]Delphine[/name_f].
From your list I think [name_f]Freya[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f] + [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] feel like very natural sister names for Isl@.
I really like the idea of [name_f]Freya[/name_f] with Isl@ she has more distinctive look and sound so doesn’t feel overly matchy with Isl@ whilst feeling very fashionable. They feel like such a natural sister set.
[name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] + [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Adele[/name_f] would be such pretty names and would match wonderfully.
Suggestions (please count any repeats as me being in agreement with the berries)
[name_f]My[/name_f] daughter’s name is [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]! [name_f]Isla[/name_f] is a very gorgeous name, the name we are naming my second daughter is [name_f]Evangelina[/name_f] because we love the flow of the names together. Some suggestions on top of yours are…
Adahlia Adelé (almost went with this for our first daughter, can be without the accent as well, nn can be Dahlia)
[name_f]Adriana[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Annamarie[/name_f] [name_f]Faith[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanora[/name_f] [name_f]Jean[/name_f]
[name_f]Eulalia[/name_f] [name_f]Hope[/name_f]
[name_f]Catalina[/name_f] [name_f]Elle[/name_f]
[name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Gracelynn[/name_f] (can be spelled with just one “n”)
[name_f]Rochelle[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f]
[name_f]Elaina[/name_f] [name_f]Marise[/name_f]
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] you find a name that suits her and goes good with your last name!
Congratulations!!! [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] is such a beautiful name !
I love [name_f]Isla[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] as potential sisters ! And I feel like [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] has so many potential [name_m]Nick[/name_m] names ( [name_f]Isla[/name_f] & [name_f]Millie[/name_f] , [name_f]Isla[/name_f] & [name_f]Amy[/name_f] , [name_f]Isla[/name_f] & Lia)
I do think that some of your contenders lean a little popular ( [name_f]Lily[/name_f] , [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and Amelia) . They are stunning names , but we do have a few in our circles.
