Baby Girl Name: Blythe or Caroline

Baby Girl is arriving in less than three weeks(!) and we need help deciding between:

  1. Blythe Caroline; or
  2. Caroline Blythe.

I’ve loved both names for years but my concerns are that Blythe isn’t classic enough and that Caroline is ubiquitous at the moment.

Name must align with and complete our sibling set, which includes big brothers William (Wills) and Henry (Hays).

With William & Henry I definitely prefer Caroline! It’s a timeless classic like her brothers’ names, but it can have plenty of modern nicknames like their names too! From Caro to Callie to Lainey and Lani to so many more!

Blythe feels more trendy to me, and I’d be a little surprised to see a Blythe as a sister to William. It still works, I just think Caroline is a better match! And it’s such a sweet, lacy yet strong choice!

Both options are lovely, but I prefer [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]. I reeeeeally like [name_u]William[/name_u], [name_u]Henry[/name_u] and [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] as a sibset. From my perspective, [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] feels vintage not trendy, even though it is trending.

I do feel like both names compliment and complete your sibset and I hope you choose the name you love most as a first, as that’s the one you’ll be saying/hearing/writing on a daily basis.

You can’t go wrong here, either option pairs well with your boys! However, I really love [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]! It flows so well and [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] just feels special.

Team [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Blythe[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] rolls off the tongue with [name_u]William[/name_u] & [name_u]Henry[/name_u]. I also think you can get some cute nicknames and in the same vein as [name_m]Wills[/name_m] & [name_m]Hays[/name_m]. [name_f]Carys[/name_f] for example. I also don’t think [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is overused right now so it will be nice and unique.

Oh I love [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Blythe[/name_f]! [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] sounds perfect with [name_u]William[/name_u] and [name_u]Henry[/name_u]!

i love caroline blythe! william, henry and caroline are so cute together. blythe is just a little too modern (imo) with william and henry :))

I love both and can see why you’re having a hard time deciding! Given her brothers’ names, I’d go with [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Blythe[/name_f]. I think it fits perfectly and you could find a sweet nickname for her too! I’m partial to linger names with nicknames in general, and I think it fits the bill here.

Truthfully, you cannot go wrong! Best of luck!

I think [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] works with [name_u]William[/name_u] and [name_u]Henry[/name_u]! It has great nickname potential, too-- [name_f]Carrie[/name_f], [name_u]Carol[/name_u], [name_u]Caro[/name_u], [name_f]Lina[/name_f] (LIE-na)… I know [name_f]Lina[/name_f] with that pronunciation isn’t legitimate but it works

I definitely think [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] goes better with [name_u]William[/name_u] and Henry!! I also prefer it as a name generally

[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] flows better and goes well with [name_u]Henry[/name_u] and [name_u]William[/name_u].

Congratulations :tada:

Both names are beautiful and you really can’t go wrong with either name.

Personally though my favourite is [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]. I really love [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] she’s sweet, cuddly, comforting and calm. She feels so cosy and I think the coziness of [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] feels similar with the familiarity of [name_u]William[/name_u] and [name_u]Henry[/name_u]. I agree with @EdgeOfTheMeadow I would say [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] is trending currently but she isn’t trendy to me this is similar to [name_u]Henry[/name_u] which seems to be having a bit of a moment but is still a classic he isn’t trendy. I think [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] is beautiful and sounds gorgeous with [name_f]Caroline[/name_f].

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps

I love how [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] shares the solemn and regal feeling of [name_u]William[/name_u] and [name_u]Henry[/name_u].

If it makes you feel better, Blythe has actually been used as a first name as far back as the sixteenth century (by English Puritans). Name of the Week - British Baby Names
I can see why you’re struggling as I love both names, too!! I wouldn’t be brave enough to use Blythe as my taste also leans more classic, but I’d be delighted if you used it. Caroline is very popular if you’re in the southern US, but for good reason. It’s so classy and happy-sounding! I’d go for Caroline, but you can’t go wrong here.
