Baby girl name - can’t decide

[name_m]Hi[/name_m],

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Me[/name_f] and my husband can’t decide how to name or second daughter.

[name_f][/name_f]

Our first daughter has a very uncommon name for our country (Croatia). [name_m]Gentle[/name_m] and with a french/spanish vibe. Now we are deciding between [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] and [name_f]Lupe[/name_f] [name_f]Isabel[/name_f].

[name_f][/name_f]

We like both. Dilemma: [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is very popular right now and it also seems a bit long with [name_f]Isabel[/name_f]. [name_f]Lupe[/name_f] is very rare in our country, maybe also a bit too special. Both are so beautiful. [name_f][/name_f] Please help me decide.

Congrats on your second daughter!

Here are my assorted thoughts:

[name_f][/name_f]
    [name_f][/name_f]
  • Siblings names don’t need to match but I do think they should be broadly equitable. I would probably give your second daughter an unusual name given your eldest has one. [name_f]So[/name_f] I’m leaning towards [name_f]Lupe[/name_f] [name_f]Isabel[/name_f].
  • [name_f][/name_f]
  • But I don’t know if your first daughter’s name is both uncommon and less conventional or just uncommon: does one of the names [name_f][/name_f]- [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] or [name_f]Lupe[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- [name_f][/name_f] connect a little better to the eldest (again not to be matchy-matchy, just so it’s not like [name_m]Kim[/name_m] & [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- too far apart, one sibling would feel unfairly treated!).
  • [name_f][/name_f]
  • Another option is [name_f]Lovella[/name_f] and nickname [name_f]Lupe[/name_f] (or Wolfie) because it means “wolf”. You’d need a different middle name to [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] and maybe a P name would be good [name_f][/name_f]- eg [name_f]Lovella[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lupe[/name_f]. [name_f]Lovella[/name_f] is halfway between [name_f]Lupe[/name_f] & [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] in my mind.
  • [name_f][/name_f]
  • [name_f]Or[/name_f] you could use [name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Lupe[/name_f] and called her [name_f]Lupe[/name_f] (but where she has [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] if she wants).
  • [name_f][/name_f]
  • Take or leave, but I don’t love the flow of [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] [name_f]Isabel[/name_f]. I like both names [name_f][/name_f]- they’re both gorgeous [name_f][/name_f]- [name_f][/name_f] but don’t love the ending of [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] into [name_f]Isabel[/name_f], and they are almost too similar. I prefer [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] [name_f]Lupe[/name_f]! [name_f]Or[/name_f] [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] with another middle.
  • [name_f][/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps and good luck! :ribbon:

[name_m]Welcome[/name_m]!

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] sounds a little rhymey to me. [name_f]Lupe[/name_f] [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] is lovely, and if it’s a similar level of rarity to her big sister then that works perfectly

I wouldn’t pick [name_f]Lupe[/name_f] because people might think you got it from telenovelas. If that wouldn’t bother you, I would pick name you love. I would be honest, I like [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] better than [name_f]Lupe[/name_f] and I don’t think [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] is too long, but your mileage might vary. I think [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is still very uncommon in Croatia (I’m Croatian), so it ticks uncommon box for me.

[name_f]Lupe[/name_f] [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] is my vote! I absolutely love her gentle, floaty feel & graceful sound.

[name_f]Given[/name_f] that your daughter has a rare name, I’d go with [name_f]Lupe[/name_f] [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- however, I’d consider:

[name_f][/name_f]
    [name_f][/name_f]
  • how easy is it to pronounce for those in Croatia? is it easy to learn/correct?
  • [name_f][/name_f]
  • how has your older daughter got on with her name?
  • [name_f][/name_f]
  • if popularity wasn’t a factor, does one stand out?
  • [name_f][/name_f]
  • would similar [name_f]Lupita[/name_f] be anymore intuitive to say where you are?
  • [name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is so near and dear to my heart, so while I like [name_f]Lupe[/name_f] [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] better as a combo, I can’t bring myself to vote against my beloved [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]! [name_f][/name_f] All the best!

I think [name_f]Lupe[/name_f] is wonderful, though I’m not certain on the pronunciation (which could be an issue for your daughter in the future). Although considering your daughter has an uncommon name, [name_f]Lupe[/name_f] seems the right fit. [name_f]Lupe[/name_f] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] is lovely.

[name_f][/name_f]

If your daughter’s uncommon name is easy to pronounce, I’d say go for [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. If it’s difficult to pronounce, [name_f]Lupe[/name_f] might be a better fit?

[name_f]Lupe[/name_f] [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- nickname “Lu” is adorable and it’s similar to Sister’s name in regards to being not that common.

[name_f]My[/name_f] first daughter’s name is Belin [name_f]Sofie[/name_f] (french pronunciation). Maybe now it’s easier to understand my dilemma.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] matches perfectly because of “LI” in the name. On the other hand [name_f]Lupe[/name_f] is uncommon as Belin.

[name_f][/name_f]

Hmmm
