Baby girl name Cecile! Thoughts and opinions, wdyt?

Hey everyone! I would really love to hear your thoughts on the name [name_f]Cecile[/name_f] for a little girl. [name_m]HOw[/name_m] do you think this name fares in english-speaking countries? Also what sort of vibes does the name give off? what do you imagine when you hear [name_f]Cecile[/name_f]?

I was thinking [name_f]Cecile[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f], [name_f]Cecile[/name_f] [name_u]Valentine[/name_u], [name_f]Cecile[/name_f] [name_f]Odette[/name_f]

Would [name_f]Cecile[/name_f] fit in with a sib set of sisters [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f], [name_f]Claudine[/name_f], [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]?

Thoughts and opinions please, and suggestions on middle names etc.

Thank you in advance!

[name_u]Love[/name_u] love [name_f]Cecile[/name_f]! But I like [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] better, although it is close call. [name_f]Cecile[/name_f] fits with [name_f]Lucille[/name_f], [name_f]Claudine[/name_f] and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] and I like [name_f]Cecile[/name_f] [name_f]Odette[/name_f].

I don’t think I’ve ever seen [name_f]Cecile[/name_f] on a non-elderly person, but it might be time for it to make its return. It has a really pleasing sound to me so long as it’s pronounced somewhat delicately (‘sa-[name_m]SEEL[/name_m]’ grates on me). I really like how it’s pronounced in [name_m]French[/name_m] but I worry that it would be anglicized in a way I wouldn’t like.

When I imagine [name_f]Cecile[/name_f] on a young girl, I picture her as quiet and bookish. However, if you like the nickname [name_f]Cece[/name_f] enough to use it at least some of the time, I picture a [name_f]Cece[/name_f] as being much more vivacious and spirited.

Out of [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f], [name_f]Claudine[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucille[/name_f], I think [name_f]Cecile[/name_f] would fit pretty well. [name_f]IMO[/name_f] [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] is a bit of an outlier - much more current than the others in my experience. I’ve seen [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] in real life while I’ve only seen [name_f]Claudine[/name_f], [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] and [name_f]Cecile[/name_f] discussed in name forums (and on elderly ladies).

As to the middle names, if you live in an English-speaking place, I suspect [name_u]Valentine[/name_u] would be pronounced with “tyne” at the end, not “teen” - not sure if that’s a problem. I think all of the middle names you’ve got work OK flow-wise with [name_f]Cecile[/name_f] but I might pick something more grounded to balance out the kind of light, airy quality [name_f]Cecile[/name_f] has. Something with a lot of consonants.

[name_f]Cecile[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecile[/name_f] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecile[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] (I’d prefer it pronounced with the “leen” ending here)
[name_f]Cecile[/name_f] [name_f]Therese[/name_f]/[name_f]Theresa[/name_f]

I like [name_f]Cecile[/name_f], but I love [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f], [name_f]Celia[/name_f] and [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] better. Very pretty name, though. ^^

I think [name_f]Cecile[/name_f] is gorgeous! Familiar but not overdone. I know one middle aged [name_f]Cecile[/name_f]. It would be divine on a little girl. [name_m]How[/name_m] perfect would [name_f]Cecile[/name_f] and [name_f]Helene[/name_f] be as sisters?!

I like the name [name_f]Cecile[/name_f], I heard it on a reality show once (the girl was about 22 and went by [name_f]Cece[/name_f]) and I thought it was a lovely name. It is a rather “serious” name but there are a few nicknames to lighten it up if you chose to use one.

As for the sibset I think the end sounds of [name_f]Cecile[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] are too similar for sisters. [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f], [name_f]Claudine[/name_f] and [name_f]Cecile[/name_f] all work together though.

Eta- I think all of the middle names you listed sound nice with it.

I love [name_f]Cecile[/name_f]–so fresh and sweet!

The name itself is lovely, and I wouldn’t hesitate to use it for a baby.

However, for me, [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] and [name_f]Cecile[/name_f] are too close to be sisters.

I agree - [name_f]Cecile[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] are too matchy. [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] are different enough and I do prefer the sound of [name_f]Cecily[/name_f]. I have heard of [name_m]Cecil[/name_m] on boys before, but only [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] on girls.

The sibset sounds good, if you go with [name_f]Cecily[/name_f].

Because I am an avid student of name meanings, all I can think of upon hearing this one is “blindness”. However, not everyone knows this and I must say that despite [name_f]Claudina[/name_f]'s meaning of lame, she is still one of my favorites, so I suppose it’s ultimately just a matter of style and opinion!

With that being said, a cultural reference to [name_f]CeCe[/name_f] or [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] is a baby character on The Office and [when I looked this up, I found that] apparently there is a character on ABC Family’s Pretty [name_m]Little[/name_m] Liars. I haven’t any knowledge about the latter, but these references probably won’t effect a 2014 baby girl negatively.

On the other hand, [name_f]Celia[/name_f] is a pretty alternative that I actually prefer (meaning “heavenly”). I think she is sleek and chic, perhaps a little less clunky without the extra ‘c’ in [name_f]Cecile[/name_f]/[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f].

As far as sibset, [name_f]Cecile[/name_f] is almost an exact mix between [name_f]Claudine[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] that I’m not sure there is enough of a difference. In my experience, this would be the family who couldn’t keep their children’s names straight… [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] is NMS, but I feel it would certainly work well with [name_f]Cecile[/name_f].

I love [name_f]Cecile[/name_f], but I’m not sure how well it does in the US. I think a lot of Americans would confuse it with [name_m]Cecil[/name_m] (the boys’ name). I think it’d make an outstanding MN, though! Also, I think [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] and [name_f]Cecile[/name_f] don’t work together very well–they sound incredibly matchy to me. I think it goes fine with [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] and [name_f]Claudine[/name_f], though. From your list I like [name_f]Cecile[/name_f] [name_f]Odette[/name_f] the best, but I like [name_f]Odette[/name_f] [name_f]Cecile[/name_f] much more.

Good luck!

I like the vintage [name_f]Cecile[/name_f] but I think it’s too similar to [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] in sound. From your combos, my fave is [name_f]Cecile[/name_f] [name_f]Odette[/name_f]. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_f]Estelle[/name_f], [name_f]Jeanette[/name_f], [name_f]Georgette[/name_f] or even [name_f]Odette[/name_f] as a first name?
