So hubby and I had our first child last [name_f]May[/name_f], and while we are not pregnant again just yet, we’re tossing around some name ideas.
[name_f][/name_f]
Now, obviously we wont know the gender of potential second baby right away, but I’m loving the idea of giving a girl the middle name [name_f]Melissa[/name_f]. This is because I sadly lost my best friend in a very sudden car accident back in 2020. She was only 30 when she passed. So, id like to honor her of we have a girl.
[name_f][/name_f]
So far, the only name ive come up with is [name_f]Brooklyn[/name_f] [name_f]Melissa[/name_f].
[name_f][/name_f]
Our son is named [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] [name_m]Kenneth[/name_m], for reference.
[name_f][/name_f]
I do like the old fashioned and vintage names, as my sons name is [name_m]Henry[/name_m], but I’m not opposed to slightly modern or one syllable names either.
I’m so sorry for your loss - I experienced a similar loss almost 15 years ago, and it’s so incredibly hard to lose a best friend! I can only imagine your pain. Melissa is a sweet name! I think since it’s longer, you can get away with a lot of shorter names (I think ones without an -a ending are better, but even something like Ada Melissa is fine imo!). If you find Melissa is really not working out well, you could maybe consider using Bee or Bea as a middle since she means “honey bee”, too!
Here’s a few ideas (trying to stick to older and more vintage names):
Odette Melissa
Adele Melissa (or even Adelaide Melissa)
Laurel Melissa
Sophie/Sylvie Melissa
Ivy Melissa
Iris Melissa
Pearl Melissa
Grace Melissa
Claire Melissa (Clara Melissa would work too?)
Giselle Melissa
Juliet Melissa
Vivian Melissa
Audrey Melissa
Felicity Melissa
Daisy Melissa
Daphne Melissa
Margot Melissa
Lucy Melissa
Lily Melissa
Katherine Melissa
Charlotte Melissa
Caroline Melissa
Zoe Melissa
Zadie Melissa/Sadie Melissa
Hope Melissa
Joy Melissa
Jane Melissa
Helene Melissa
Jasmine Melissa (or Jessamy/Jessamine Melissa?)
Vera Melissa
Lorelei Melissa
Lydia Melissa
Kate Melissa
Eve Melissa
Rose Melissa/Rosemary Melissa
Olive Melissa
Violet Melissa (or Viola Melissa)
Romy Melissa
Beatrix Melissa
Esther Melissa
Chloe Melissa
Evelyn Melissa
Xanthe Melissa
Idalia Melissa
Hattie Melissa
[name_f]Melissa[/name_f] is such a lovely name, with a lovely etymological meaning to add to your personal one [name_f][/name_f] I hope you find a first name that you love with [name_f]Melissa[/name_f], or another way you can honour her as @ashthedreamer[name_f][/name_f] says. Also love their suggestion of [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Melissa[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]Would a future child have a second middle like your son?
Firstly I’m so sorry for your loss. I’ve been in a similar situation and it’s really hard. I think paying tribute to your friend with using her name is lovely. I plan to do the same thing 🩵
[name_f][/name_f]
I think [name_f]Brooklyn[/name_f] [name_f]Melissa[/name_f] is fun but does feel slightly stylistically different to the ever so classic H3nry.
[name_f][/name_f]
You’ve had lots of lovely suggestions so count any repeats
I agree with @ashthedreamer[name_f][/name_f] and @EdgeOfTheMeadow—Melissa makes a lovely middle name! They both had some great suggestions, so if I repeat any, take it as a sign that I’m in agreement.
These names really hit the nail on the head, thank you so much. And thank you for your condolences. Losing someone we live, or are cloae to is never easy.
A potential second baby may have 2 middle names, Im not sure though. Fhe 2 middle names we had chosen before, for a girl, were [name_f]Hope[/name_f] and [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]. But [name_f][/name_f] i think it depends on the first name.
How do you feel about alliteration? [name_f][/name_f][name_f]My[/name_f] first thought was [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Meredith[/name_f] [name_f]Melissa[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Michelle[/name_f] [name_f]Melissa[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Melissa[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Marnie[/name_f] [name_f]Melissa[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] [name_f]Melissa[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Myra[/name_f] [name_f]Melissa[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f]
If alliteration isn’t your thing [name_f][/name_f], and we keep on the vintage charm:
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Melissa[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- I love [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] as a name because of all the beautiful nickname options
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Rosa[/name_f] / [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] / [name_f]Rosalia[/name_f] [name_f]Melissa[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]. I think a [name_f]Rose[/name_f] name just goes so perfect with [name_m]Henry[/name_m]!
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Alina[/name_f] / [name_f]Elena[/name_f] [name_f]Melissa[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- maybe not as vintage but I love the flow
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] [name_f]Melissa[/name_f]- I love this one [name_f][/name_f]. So many nicknames and I think [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m] are so complimentary
