I am absolutely in love with the name Fair for a baby girl. I have only seen it once as a nn for [name_f]Fernanda[/name_f], but I love the sound of it on it’s own.
If you heard this name on a baby girl, what would your reaction be? Is it too strange? Does it remind you of a county fair or a fair haired little beauty?
I’m not yet TTC, just building a solid list for when the time comes :). Thank you for your input!
I think it’s beautiful and very unique, I do not believe there are rules and guidelines anyone should follow when naming a child…
Fair [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
Fair [name_f]Amethyst[/name_f]
Fair [name_f]Dawn[/name_f]
are all pretty but I would stick with “word names” for the mn like above…
Something like Fair [name_f]Jane[/name_f] or Fair [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] just don’t sound as good in my opinion…
I think Fair is sweet! I don’t know that I’d do it all on its own, but I think of Fair as a virtue, or as in the phrase “fair maiden” (I’ve been reading regency novels lately, haha!). Besides [name_f]Fernanda[/name_f], I think [name_f]Fairuza[/name_f] (which means “turquoise”, I believe? I think it’s Persian or Arabic or something?) or Fionnabhair (sp? It’s said [name_u]FINN[/name_u]-ah-vair. It’s Irish.) would be great ways to get to Fair, too. I think something simple and classic as a MN would be pretty with just Fair, too–Fair [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], Fair [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], Fair [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f].
I agree with rkrd- Fair is too commonly used and heard as a word; it’d be confusing to be named that. The child would be constantly hearing their name, looking around to see who called them, and realizing it wasn’t about them. Use it as a middle if you really love it.
I think it’s really cute, as a nickname or a standalone. I think of it as a virtue, and I think Fair would fit in just fine with classmates [name_f]Grace[/name_f] and [name_f]Faith[/name_f]
I like it. It’s very wordy but so is [name_f]May[/name_f], even [name_f]Grace[/name_f] and [name_f]Faith[/name_f] are more commonly used than you might expect.
Fair has been on my list for awhile! I love it!
I’ve also thought of using Fairly, but it doesn’t have quite the same meaning, even though I still love the sound.
I’ve also thought of using it as a nickname for Farrah, Allifair, Fairfax, and Findabhair.
I see its appeal, but I’d keep it as a nickname - it’s a word name but it’s SUCH a word name, you know? It could refer to a county fair, to fairness in terms of justice, to fairness in terms of beauty, to “in fair [name_f]Verona[/name_f] where we lay our scene”; it also made me think of satisfaction scales that you see on surveys sometimes - “was your service excellent; very good; good; fair; or poor”, in which “fair” basically means “mediocre” or “just barely satisfactory”. So I’d make it a nickname for something else, or I guess use it as a middle name.
Ahh I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] Fionnabhair!!! I looked into it and I saw the pronunciation as Fyuh-[name_f]NOOR[/name_f], but I much prefer the way you wrote it out. I think I’d have to spell it Finnavair/Finnevair nn Fair. Obsessed”. Thank you!
