Baby name Jovie?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! Our baby girl is here, and she is nearly named. My husband’s top pick is [name_f]Jovie[/name_f]. He loves that it naturally lends itself to a variety of nicknames. I really like it, too, but I feel like when I say it to people, they just kind of nod in a I-think-that’s-a-horrible-idea way  My mom thinks that for the rest of her life, our baby will get, “oh, after bon jovi?” from every person she meets.

I really like the name, and I know in the end that’s what matters, but I wanted to make sure I wasn’t making a huge mistake. If you could tell me your initial reaction (“ew, that’s hideous” or “I don’t think much of it either way” or “ooh!” or whatever), that’d be great.

Thanks for your helpful feedback in advance!

My initial reaction:
As in Bon [name_m]Jovi[/name_m]? I thought of that just from seeing the name [name_f]Jovie[/name_f]. But if you can get past that, it’s a sweet name. Sort of Joyful likes [name_u]Josie[/name_u], but more exciting. The more I think of it, the more I like it! I’d be nice if it could be a nickname for another name. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] nn [name_f]Jovie[/name_f]? If your daughter doesn’t like [name_f]Jovie[/name_f], I don’t see any other names she could go by. [name_u]Jo[/name_u]? [name_f]Vivi[/name_f]? Ok, maybe…
[name_f]Jovie[/name_f] sounds like a nickname to me, it doesn’t sound complete at all. But it is sweet, for a little girl, but maybe not for an adult.

I didn’t think of Bon [name_m]Jovi[/name_m], I just thought, Oh, that’s different-finally something different and not mainstream. I find it refreshing, and I like unusual names, as well as the classics.
[name_f]Jovie[/name_f] is pretty cute-fairly easy to spell, and a handful of nicknames could work well with it. As long as you and your husband love it, and you wouldn’t mind it for a name yourself(if you were named [name_f]Jovie[/name_f] how would you feel), then go for it.

If I was named [name_f]Jovie[/name_f], I would want to be called [name_m]Joe[/name_m], [name_u]Joey[/name_u], or maybe [name_f]Joy[/name_f].

One of my best friend’s daughters name is [name_f]Jovie[/name_f] and she loves it and all her friends love it  go for it! Good [name_m]Luck[/name_m]

I think it’s cute! I really didn’t think of Bon [name_m]Jovi[/name_m] until you mentioned it. I just heard this name last night when I watched the movie Elf.

I thought of Bon [name_m]Jovi[/name_m] when I read it. I’m not a fan of it, to be honest. I can’t imagine an adult in a serious profession named [name_f]Jovie[/name_f].

I disagree I hink if not jovie mabye a nickname like jo would be more serious or name her [name_f]Joann[/name_f] or Josaphine and call her [name_f]Jovie[/name_f] then when she grows up she could go by the longer (more serious version)

I didn’t think of Bon [name_m]Jovi[/name_m], but I’m afraid I don’t love it, either. It reminds me of the word ‘juvenile’, maybe because it does strike me as a bit cutesy?

If you love it, you should go for it, though!

This exactly… [name_f]Jovie[/name_f] is cute as a nickname. [name_m]Just[/name_m] use a longer name so she has something more substantial when she has to appy for a job.

I like it. It’s a bit cutesy, but not massively. I first though of [name_m]Jove[/name_m], which is a perfectly nice connotation (and referenced a lot by [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m] which is why I thought of it first).

I know a girl named Jovia, which you could use to avoid ‘Bon [name_m]Jovi[/name_m]?’ comments.

This was also my initial reaction; I immediately thought of Bon [name_m]Jovi[/name_m]. However I think it could be a cute nn for a more substantive first.

You can always tell when it’s [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] time and Elf is on TV repeatedly, because [name_f]Jovie[/name_f] pops up every year (since the movie came out).
I personally don’t care for [name_f]Jovie[/name_f], but it isn’t that bad. “Making a huge mistake” is pretty harsh lol.

Ha, I know what you mean about Elf! [name_f]Jovie[/name_f] was actually on our list back when we conceived, but it is a funny coincidence that she was born near [name_u]Christmas[/name_u]

I really like [name_f]Jovie[/name_f], one of my fave J names. I say go for it!

I didn’t think of Bon [name_m]Jovi[/name_m] and I think [name_f]Jovie[/name_f] is a fine name.

If you want a longer form, I think [name_f]Jovana[/name_f] is the prettiest.

[name_f]Jovie[/name_f] is cute - for a baby or a little girl. However, children grow up and spend most of their lives as adults. We should be naming adults not children. [name_f]Jovie[/name_f] isn’t a name I can imagine on a grown woman. [name_f]Jovita[/name_f], Joviane or Joviana would be some full names you could choose to get the nn [name_f]Jovie[/name_f].

I know of a little girl who is named [name_f]Jovie[/name_f] and when she was born I thought it was so adorable! [name_m]Even[/name_m] though I like Bon [name_m]Jovi[/name_m], I didn’t think of that at all. It fits in with so many names that are common now-a-days without being super popular so I love it! I say go for it!
