Back to Scarlett?! 🌹 (with poll)

Hi berries.

So… many of you have helped me over the months when it comes to girls names and I’m super grateful for all of your suggestions and comments! Thank you :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I’m almost halfway through my pregnancy with baby girl number 2 and I think we are back to the very first name we all loved as a family - Scarlett

However, I just have one thing that’s holding me back… our surname is Green@n and I can’t get the double colour thing out of my head (red green) :see_no_evil:

Honest opinions please - if you say/see this name, do you notice it straight away? If so, would it be a dealbreaker for you? Any other feedback appreciated. I’m also going to add a poll below.

The middle name combo I adore is Scarlett Eliza. It just feels so zippy and sharp, with a fun spunky edge!

Thank you, as always :heart_hands:

  • Too colour heavy for me I’m afraid!
  • Didn’t even notice it and doesn’t bother me

I did notice the red-green connection right away. I’m not sure it’s a complete dealbreaker, but I would try to avoid it personally. That said, I know a Hunt3r Gr33n who gets on perfectly fine (though he does get comments / jokes on occasion).

I didn’t really notice til you mentioned it - my first thought with the name [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] are the two little girls I know with this rather than the colour.

Once you said it it became obvious but I wouldn’t say it’s a deal breaker in any way. If you love it use it

I did notice it immediately - I don’t think it’s necessarily the end of the world, but it feels kind of like a comic book character name to me, so I personally wouldn’t do it.

Could you maybe do Starla or Sasha or Stella instead?

Or if you don’t like the double ending for Eliza, maybe Sorcha?

I don’t think it’ll be a total tragedy but some will definitely make the connection.

Thank you @cms1512 - I’m not keen on both first and middle names ending in ‘a’. I had suggested [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] to my husband instead but he isn’t keen on [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] for a first :face_exhaling:

How do you feel about [name_f]Shiloh[/name_f] or [name_f]Sutton[/name_f] or even [name_f]Sable[/name_f]?

It honestly wouldn’t bother me.

But if it does bother you, could you use [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] instead? [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] would be so lovely, and you could absolutely call her Scarlett-Charlotte at home and still get to use the name you love.

[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] Green@n does not make me thing of red green at all while [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_m]Green[/name_m] does give me an instant red green association. But even then I don’t see it in a Christmassy way (which would be more of a deal breaker for me with over the top colour names if that makes sense)

[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] in Gone with the Wind is well known for wearing a green (curtain?) dress so that was one of my first associations but in my mind scarlett and green go together really well

And like the little emoji you use in the title (:rose:) I also more think of a rose with a green stem

Since your last name isn’t just [name_m]Green[/name_m] I really don’t think it’s a bad thing. And even if it were it’s better than [name_f]Sage[/name_f] [name_m]Green[/name_m] or [name_f]Jade[/name_f] [name_m]Green[/name_m] where it just seems like you’re a family that’s obsessed with the colour green!

I say go for what you love! [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is such a beautiful combo!!

Not really loving any of these. Thank you so much for your suggestions though!

I think I’d have to be in the situation to know how much the colour thing would bother me. As an outsider, no I don’t think that it’s a deal-breaker if [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] is your favourite, but I do understand your concern!

There are also a lot of things out of our control as parents, e.g. she may insist that everyone calls her [name_f]Lettie[/name_f], or Scar during her teenage years  or change her last name if she marries, etc. But I know right now your priority is to give her the best name you can  I hope you find a first name that feels right for her.

@EdgeOfTheMeadow thank you :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: naming [name_f]Zara[/name_f] definitely wasn’t this hard!

@Chococat thank you, I did consider [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] but it’s a bit too mainstream for me.

I did notice the colour thing, but it doesn’t really bother me. [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] is namey enough

This is my feelings exactly. I’d go with it anyway if it’s the name you love.

It wouldn’t bother me and I didn’t notice it until I thought over your question. If your last name was [name_m]Green[/name_m] then I may not feel the same way but with a different ending and that [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] isn’t hugely used as a colour such as red, yellow, blue, etc. I think it’s fine. When I hear [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] I immediately think of it as a name, not a colour. You’re fine using it, IMO.

I noticed, but it absolutely isn’t a dealbreaker to me. More like a cute coincidence.

I love the name [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

[name_m]Feel[/name_m] the same - noticed but doesn’t worry me.

I noticed (partially because the context of the post meant there was something to notice and partially because I have a similar last name so I often have the same problem, I don’t know if I would have caught it just hearing the name around in regular life) but I don’t think its a dealbreaker at all. If your last name was just [name_m]Green[/name_m] then it would be a little silly but [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] Green@n doesn’t immediately strike me the name of a paint chip that’s somehow reddish green. It also helps that you’re using the [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] spelling and not [name_f]Scarlet[/name_f] so it’s also a little more name-y and less color-y.

[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is a gorgeous combo!

I did notice but also it’s the entire post context drawing attention - I honestly think in this instance if it’s the name you love go for it. If it were [name_m]Green[/name_m], it’d be a no but I think you can get away with it, and even if it is noticed it’s kind of a cute quirk rather than something teaseworthy. [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is really lovely.
