First off, I’m not pregnant, I’m posting this on behalf of a family friend.
Basically, she’s seven months pregnant with her first child, and the girl’s name they had picked out ([name]Amelia[/name] [name]Frances[/name]) they can’t use because her partner’s cousin has given birth to a baby girl she named [name]Amelia[/name]. So [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Jamie[/name] are now trying to come up with another girl’s name they love as much. They’ve got the boy’s name picked ([name]Nathan[/name] [name]Ashley[/name], after his brother who died) but need another girl’s name. [name]Frances[/name] is probably staying as middle as it’s honouring, though they’ve said it may change to [name]Francesca[/name] if it flows better.
The ones they’re considering are:
[name]Zara[/name]
[name]Martha[/name] - after his great-nan, but is it too dated?
[name]Milly[/name]/[name]Millie[/name] - was going to be the nn for [name]Amelie[/name], but they’re now considering it as a stand-alone.
[name]Georgina[/name]
[name]Natasha[/name]
[name]Olivia[/name]
[name]Ciara[/name] (keer-a) - this was their second choice, but they’re worried it’ll be spelt wrong constantly
[name]Mia[/name]
As you can see they like -a ending names. Last name’s three syllables, begins with H and ends -son. They’re pretty much stumped on which name to go with after the cousin ruled out their original planned name. They’re asking a few non-family members (including me) for opinions, so I thought I’d go a step further and get a lot of opinions. [name]One[/name] last note, they live in the UK, in case that makes a difference to anyone.
I find [name]Millie[/name] adorable, but I always prefer full names. [name]How[/name] close are they to the cousin? I don’t see why they can’t use [name]Amelia[/name], especially if they call her [name]Millie[/name]. However, they could try another way of getting to [name]Millie[/name]- or try something like [name]Mira[/name] or [name]Mila[/name] instead.
I like [name]Olivia[/name], but it is very popular. There’s also [name]Viola[/name], [name]Cora[/name], [name]Clara[/name], [name]Cordelia[/name], [name]Natalia[/name], [name]Nadia[/name], [name]Nora[/name], [name]Flora[/name]/[name]Florence[/name]. All names ending in a. There’s also [name]Matilda[/name], which could be shortened to [name]Tilda[/name] or [name]Tilly[/name].
Out of the ones you listed, I also like [name]Georgina[/name] (although I prefer [name]Georgia[/name]).
I love [name]Georgia[/name]/[name]Georgina[/name] [name]Frances[/name]. I also love [name]Nora[/name] [name]Frances[/name], [name]Olivia[/name] [name]Frances[/name], and [name]Clara[/name] [name]Frances[/name].
They live about a twenty minute drive apart, but both sets of grandparents live in the same street so they see each other’s grandkids quite a bit which is where the problem will be.
Let’s play “if you like”!
[name]Zara[/name] - [name]Zelia[/name], [name]Zora[/name], [name]Aravis[/name]
[name]Martha[/name] - [name]Marys[/name], [name]Bethany[/name] (both have Biblical connections to [name]Martha[/name]), [name]Marcheline[/name]
[name]Milly[/name]/[name]Millie[/name] - [name]Millicent[/name], [name]Camilla[/name], [name]Millay[/name]
[name]Georgina[/name] - [name]Geneva[/name], [name]Genevieve[/name], [name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Natasha[/name] - [name]Asha[/name], [name]Natalia[/name], [name]Anastasia[/name]
[name]Olivia[/name] - [name]Olympia[/name], [name]Octavia[/name], [name]Araminta[/name]
[name]Ciara[/name] (keer-a) - [name]Corinne[/name], Kierstan, [name]Kerensa[/name]
[name]Mia[/name] - [name]Mila[/name], [name]Kia[/name], [name]Amina[/name]
[name]Aurelia[/name] is nice alternative to [name]Amelia[/name].
[name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Frances[/name] is gorgeous in my opinion. So is [name]Arabella[/name] [name]Frances[/name]. [name]Olivia[/name] [name]Frances[/name] is pretty, too.
[name]How[/name] about they consider the following? I tested them all with the middle name [name]Frances[/name], and I think they all work nicely:
[name]Georgia[/name]
[name]Ruby[/name]
[name]Johanna[/name]
[name]Ramona[/name]
[name]Matilda[/name]
[name]Eudora[/name]
[name]Audra[/name]
[name]Cecilia[/name], [name]Cecily[/name]
[name]Scarlett[/name]
[name]Martina[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Veronica[/name]
[name]Vera[/name]
I hope that helps!
[name]Zara[/name] - I like [name]Zara[/name] a lot…it has quite a different feel from [name]Amelia[/name], but [name]Zara[/name] [name]Frances[/name] has a nice ring to it.
[name]Martha[/name] - I graduated with a [name]Martha[/name] who went by [name]Mattie[/name]. It’s a little dated for my taste, but I don’t think it’s unusable.
[name]Milly[/name]/[name]Millie[/name] - I definitely think that some nns can be used as names, but for some reason, I just don’t think this is one.
[name]Georgina[/name] - I think of [name]Georgina[/name] Sparks from Gossip Girl. The name isn’t my person style, but it’s certainly nice enough.
[name]Natasha[/name] - I like it, but I’m not the biggest fan.
[name]Olivia[/name] - I love [name]Olivia[/name], but isn’t this name quite popular? That’s something they might want to consider. I actually prefer [name]Livia[/name], which is very similar but just unique enough.
[name]Ciara[/name] (keer-a) - If they’re worried about misspellings, have they thought about changing the spelling themselves? I imagine [name]Keer[/name]-a being spelled as [name]Kira[/name] or [name]Keira[/name], just to keep it a little more phonetical.
[name]Mia[/name] - I love [name]Mia[/name]…it’s always been on my list of names that I like but am not fanatical about. I think it’s simple, sounds lovely, has a wonderful meaning…it would be a wonderful choice especially if they have a longish last name.
I don’t think they could go wrong with any of these choices…good luck to them!
None of those compare to [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Frances[/name], [name]IMO[/name]! I think I would just have to use it anyway, personally. Or why couldn’t they use [name]Amelie[/name], since it doesn’t even sound the same as [name]Amelia[/name], and still get [name]Millie[/name] for the nn. Still prefer [name]Amelia[/name] though. I like [name]Zara[/name] too, but prefer [name]Sara[/name] (but I’m biased, as it’s my own name :). [name]Olivia[/name] is very pretty if you don’t mind the popularity. I def prefer [name]Frances[/name] to [name]Francesca[/name], but then my daughter is [name]Madeline[/name] [name]Frances[/name], so again, I’m biased!!
