I’ve fallen headfirst into the Baldur’s Gate craze as has my wife. Our characters are a bard named [name_f]Fable[/name_f] and a warlock named Rhios. Rhios’ name just sounded fantasy to me, [name_f]Fable[/name_f] I picked because she’s a storyteller and I wanted something strong yet fanciful.
While most names in the game are a bit out there (not sure BG3 will inspire many baby Shadowhearts), I’ve noticed a few intriguing ones.
Mayrina and [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] are two minor characters and I think they’d make a great sibset.
Astarion is a companion who’s name I find intriguing, if a bit daring. The nickname [name_f]Star[/name_f] is very fun. I think the fact that it’s an existing mythology name (the name of the minotaur) makes it feel more useable.
Karlach, Wyll, Halsin, and Lae’zel feel like they’re almost usable to me. Like they’re so similar in sound to popular choices, but also way too tied to the game. Theres also a goddess named Selune (pronounced seh-LOON-uh), which I could see myself using if it weren’t so obviously DnD.
Is anyone else a fan of Baldur’s Gate? Got any fun names from the game to share? What did you name your character if you’ve played / how would you name yourself if you were an adventurer in a fantasy land?
[name_f]My[/name_f] partner and I often play Baldur’s Gate 3 together, so this topic is quite exciting to me, haha!
As of right now, I am playing a Seldarine Drow warlock named [name_f]Araluen[/name_f], but I often restart the game just to experience new character races and classes! I have lost count by now of the names I have bestowed upon my characters, save for a favorite [name_m]Wood[/name_m] [name_f]Elf[/name_f] druid, [name_f]Faunia[/name_f], and my lightning-themed Githyanki wizard, Lirael Lightstruck! I was just mentioning Astarion’s name to a friend, and I very much agree that it is one of the more usable options! When I heard Selune’s name, I swooned!! Such a gorgeous name, but as you say, very DnD! I also love love love Mayrina’s name! The game is such a treasure trove of inspiring name ideas, at least for me, albeit my mind is not recalling any favorites at the moment other than the ones you mention, plus the name Zarys! What a fascinating and fun thread idea! Thank you for creating it, and have a marvelous day!
[name_f]Araluen[/name_f] and Lirael are absolutely inspired! I think my next playthrough will be a githyanki, I’m curious to see how Lae’zel and Shadowheart would react to me. One great thing about Baldur’s Gate is getting to name yourself over and over again
I haven’t met Zarys yet, but that is a killer name!
