Bartholemew Simpkins?

Another question!
I really like the name Bartholemew especially as I’m named [name_f]Katharine[/name_f] after the church my parents got married and we got married at St Bartholemew’s Church.
However our surname is Simpkins…
Does this just make you think [name_m]Bart[/name_m] [name_m]Simpson[/name_m]?

Are there other nicknames for Bartholmew, or would it still come back to [name_m]Bart[/name_m]…probably another name relegated to the middle position :frowning:

[name_m]Bo[/name_m]? Tolly? [name_u]Barry[/name_u]? [name_u]Ollie[/name_u]? [name_m]Lem[/name_m]?

but Simpkins is a bit rough with it. Sounds like a little English schoolboy who would be beaten up.

Simpkins is a cool name, but is suggests simpering so I would choose a first name that sounded more manly. [name_m]Just[/name_m] for the teasing, even before thinking of [name_m]Bart[/name_m] [name_m]Simpson[/name_m].

I agree. Better for the middle spot with your surname.

It does make me think of [name_m]Bart[/name_m] [name_m]Simpson[/name_m]. However, I don’t think that too big of a deal breaker. Bartholomew is a cool and reall smart sounding name. For nicknames:

Tolly
[name_u]Ollie[/name_u]
Mew
[name_u]Barry[/name_u]
Barth
[name_m]Rollo[/name_m]
Rew (roo)
[name_m]Lew[/name_m]
[name_m]Lem[/name_m]
[name_m]Lemmie[/name_m] :stuck_out_tongue:
Tem/[name_m]Tim[/name_m]
[name_m]Timmy[/name_m]

I don´t think of [name_m]Bart[/name_m] [name_m]Simpson[/name_m] when I see it, but that could be just me. I really like [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m], and I think I´ve seen Meus or Mius as a nickname for [name_m]Bartholomeus[/name_m], so maybe it could work? Good luck!

I don’t necessarily think of [name_m]Bart[/name_m] [name_m]Simpson[/name_m] however it does seem like a mouthful & I think it’d be better fit in the middle name spot. WDYT of something like [name_u]Max[/name_u] [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] Simpkins? Something short in the FN spot & use your name as a middle?

I’ve seen [name_m]Tommy[/name_m] as a nickname for [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m]. I think it would only be a problem if you called him [name_m]Bart[/name_m]

I think of [name_m]Bart[/name_m] [name_m]Simpson[/name_m] right away. I think that Barth or [name_m]Telly[/name_m] or Tolly could work, but [name_m]Bart[/name_m] is the most intuitive and no matter if you avoid it, he could end up up as [name_m]Bart[/name_m] in school and in adulthood. I think that the association is pretty enduring and that while it might not still be airing new episodes by the time a baby [name_m]Bart[/name_m] is in school, it will likely show reruns and be well remembered by it’s legion of fans.

Bartholemew is referred to [name_m]Nathaneal[/name_m] in the bible. Does [name_m]Nathaneal[/name_m] have the same connection for you? [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] or [name_u]Neal[/name_u]?

He is also the patron saint of leather & leather work & tanners. Does the name [name_m]Tanner[/name_m] appeal to you at all?

Good luck.

I want to add, [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] always makes me think of [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_f]Candy[/name_f] in Spaceballs.

“What’s your name?”
“Barf”
“No, your full name.”
“Barfolomew!”
