Be honest - have you ever dropped your baby or have they fallen?

Probably not a topic anyone likes to bring up, BUT:

Has your baby ever fallen from a sofa, changing table, bed, etc?

Or, in the same vein, have you (or anyone else) ever dropped your baby?

My daughter has never been dropped, but the other day she did fall off the bed. I was HORRIFIED. I have a bed rail on my bed, and usually cram a pillow in the space at the top of it. My daughter was sleeping on the bed and I stepped out of the room (she wasn’t crawling yet) to use the bathroom and heard a thump. When I ran into the room she was on the floor, she managed to squirm herself between the bed rail and pillow. Thankfully I had a large meditation pillow on the floor next to the bed, which she landed on. She wasn’t hurt but I was so scared!

Never dropped a human baby, but when my Airedale terrier, [name_m]Woodrow[/name_m], was about ten weeks old, I was setting him down and he wiggled out of my arms and conked his lil’ head on the sidewalk. Ended up with a big “goose egg” and a lot of tenderness, poor baby! I was mortified.

[name_m]Ivan[/name_m] plops down on his little bum all the time, and sometimes he rolls backward. It’s actually pretty cute. He crawled off the bed once, and lost his balance climbing off of a very low air mattress one time. SO did actually drop him when he was two or three months old, but it was less than a foot onto the bed. He just lost his grip. We called the doctor because he fell kind of awkwardly and they said that we didn’t need to bring him in, they fall all the time.

They were all really scary, but he only cried once, after crawling off of the bed. That was entirely my fault. I turned away to get his jammies and dropped something and he wanted my attention so he came over to the side and fell off. Absolutely horrifying. I felt like the worst mommy ever.

I havnt dropped any babies but when holding my nephew i felt like his head we flopping back too far I readjusted but too quick and he banged his head into my collar bone- he cried for a little but and i felt really bad its been 2 years since then and i still think about it!

I dropped [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] when she was 11 months old, I fell down the bottom 5 steps of the stairs (slipped on my dressing gown). She didn’t hit her head, she didn’t cry, but safe to say mummy was FAR more traumatised than [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]. I brought her to the hospital immediately just to be certain but she was obviously fine. I was totally shook up though, I was nervous walking down the stairs with her for the longest time after it. It was an accident but I felt really guilty.

I’ve never dropped [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] but she did roll off A’s bed a few weeks ago. A has a toddler bed so its barely 2ft off the ground, so it wasn’t a big fall. I was changing her nappy and turned to get the sudocreme, and in the space of 2 seconds she was on the floor. She cried for about 10 minutes and I rang the quick call doctor for advice. They said to monitor her for the next 24 hours, not to let her sleep for at least 5-6 hours from the time of the fall, and that she should be fine and need no medical intervention.

[name_m]Reading[/name_m] this back I sound like a crap, neglectful parent, but I promise I’m not! I don’t feel guilty any more because they are babies, they are learning, and accidents happen.

Oh man, such a fear! My cousin once fell off the bed. He was about ten months old. No damage done thank goodness. Another cousin once threw his head back and hit my teeth. Lots of crying there. Luckily, I’ve never dropped a baby.

I fell on the stairs with [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] when he was a week old. He fell out of my arms and hit his head. We took him to the ER and they did a [name_f]CAT[/name_f] scan but he was fine. [name_f]Mary[/name_f] fell of a changing table at the YMCA when I was changing her diaper at around nine months old. She seemed OK. She landed on her bottom and feet not her head. She’s also fallen off all sorts of things once she became more mobile. She loves to climb.

When my sister was little, about 2 years old, my mom was playing sack of potatoes, which is where you throw the kid over your shoulders by their ankles like a sack of potatoes, and she lost grip of my sister and flung her into the quilt rack. Also when my sister was about a year old she slip and hit her head on the edge of a coffee table, and had to be taken to the hospital. She turned out fine though.

As for me, I had my niece laying in my lap sleeping and she rolled off my lap and got a bump on her forehead. And when she was about a year and a half she rolled about 3 feet off the couch on to tile flooring, cried for about 5 minutes then went back to sleep. My youngest niece has yet to be dropped.

She was never dropped, but she did fall off the bed.

Actually, one day I dashed to the bathroom and left her napping on the bed. I mentioned it to my husband and he totally reamed me out about how careless I was and how she could’ve rolled off of the bed and gotten hurt. [name_m]Just[/name_m] a few days later he had her napping on the bed and wasn’t paying attention and sure enough she rolled off! I think we learned a really important lesson that day hahaha. She was fine, of course, and it was the first of many bumps and bruises.

I have tripped and fallen while holding little ones, I’ve always managed to soften their landing in some way though, thankfully. One time I swung my arm around real fast while sitting on the floor and I accidentally smacked a toddler on her bare back so hard that it left a bruise, she cried, I cried. I felt so horrible. I have also seen moms scratch their babies faces and body with the diamonds on their wedding rings, ow! << the moral of the story, accidents happen, and (thank God) babies are tough and recover quickly

Azula has fallen off a bed once and off our couch a couple times (but always happened to land either on her bum or on a pillow). I think the earliest time she was probably about 8 months, but she never fell or anything as a [name_m]LITTLE[/name_m] baby.
