a bit late but today (sept 4th) is one year on nameberry for me!

if you’ve seen my list, it’s all a bit of a disaster right now. as i keep swapping in and out names and i’m not really sure what to do about it at this point, as i’ve gotten to the point i maybe have about five names per sex? and it’s kind of beginning to irritate me so i thought i’d ask for some help!

i’d say i generally like more beachy (capri, navy, ozzy) or spunky (scout, indiana, indie) names. then i have some where i’m not sure if they belong in either category but i love them so much it doesn’t matter (sunday). but my list is so small i’d love some help, if you can think of any names that fit this vibe i’d be super grateful! i’ll add my list below so you can see what i’m currently at…

does harvest and/or harbour feel completely random on my girls list? i’m not really a thousand percent sure on them, but i do like them a lot!

As for the questions, I don’t have a preference with [name_f]Scout[/name_f]. It makes me think of the character from To Kill A Mockingbird, who is a girl, but I could see it on either.

I prefer names like [name_m]Harvest[/name_m] and [name_m]Harbour[/name_m] in the middle name spot.

I think it works on any gender, but I feel like I see it way more as a girl name so it does lean more feminine in my head!

Definitely [name_f]Indie[/name_f] on its own! [name_f]India[/name_f] feels really weird to me as a name when someone doesn’t have a connection to the country, and [name_f]Indiana[/name_f] just doesn’t have that beachy, artsy vibe to me.

I slightly prefer [name_f]Scout[/name_f] on a girl, but I think it works better as a term of endearment than a given name. That’s just me.

I like [name_f]Indie[/name_f] on its own or short for [name_f]Indigo[/name_f].

I don’t care for the name [name_m]Harvest[/name_m]. [name_f]Tess[/name_f] or [name_f]Arista[/name_f] have similar meanings and sound more melodic to me. Habour works better I think, though I’d still probably go with [name_f]Marina[/name_f] or [name_f]Haven[/name_f]. I just like the sound better.

Harbor/Harbour really feels like it fits your list - she’s so beachy and sunny and fun!! [name_m]Harvest[/name_m] feels a little more “random” per se, but I do feel like she fits your cozy, word name likes on your list!!

I ultimately prefer just [name_f]Indie[/name_f] - so zippy and lovely

In terms of [name_f]Indiana[/name_f] vs [name_f]India[/name_f], I prefer [name_f]Indiana[/name_f], partly because my friend (who is Indian) finds it really, really weird when people call their kids [name_f]India[/name_f] which has put me off a little, whereas [name_f]Indiana[/name_f] feels more in line with other favoured state/city names (Astoria, [name_m]Denver[/name_m], [name_m]Austin[/name_m] etc) and feels more name-y, maybe thanks to the [name_f]Indiana[/name_f] [name_m]Jones[/name_m] thing.

As for the questions

I do see [name_f]Scout[/name_f] more as a girls name rather than boys solely because I only know female Scouts. But I do think it honestly works well for either gender!

I do think [name_f]Indie[/name_f] works well on its own. Of the 3 I think I prefer [name_f]Indie[/name_f] the most to [name_f]India[/name_f] and [name_f]Indiana[/name_f] personal, but I also think it’s the most commonly used. So I wouldn’t completely take off [name_f]India[/name_f] or [name_f]Indiana[/name_f] from your list either!

I think [name_m]Harvest[/name_m] feels more random between the 2 but still fits really well with the other names. I actually know a girl named [name_m]Harbour[/name_m] in my town and her mom’s name style is very close to yours

I think [name_f]Melissa[/name_f] is a very easy name to match with for a middle. From your list already I think any of the names you like could definitely work! The names I’ve put I think also pair well so hopefully you find something you like in all of this!

I like [name_f]Scout[/name_f] for both genders however I do think How to Kill a Mockingbird and within this absolutely fabulous novel the main character [name_f]Scout[/name_f] is female. So for me I would align with female more naturally.

I dislike [name_f]India[/name_f] I do find the name a little culturally insensitive given the history surrounding white Europeans and [name_f]India[/name_f]. [name_f]Indiana[/name_f] is my preferred but in all honestly I like [name_f]Indigo[/name_f] with nickname [name_f]Indie[/name_f]. [name_m]Or[/name_m] [name_f]Indira[/name_f].
