Bear with me... Hephzibah!

Can anyone else see the appeal? She could be Hephzi, [name_f]Eppie[/name_f], [name_f]Zibby[/name_f], [name_u]Bar[/name_u]… Hmm, I think it’s a GP really, isn’t it!

Which spelling do you prefer: [name_f]Hephzibah[/name_f] or [name_f]Hepzibah[/name_f]? I’d pronounce both the same way.

[name_f]Hepzibah[/name_f] looks more streamlined, but [name_f]Hephzibah[/name_f] looks more ‘authentic’. I think I prefer [name_f]Hephzibah[/name_f], but not by a lot. (I’m saying HEP-zih-bar - though I did think it was hep-ZYE-bah before I was corrected.)

For the record, someone I know goes to a church (in [name_f]England[/name_f]) where there’s 2 or 3 Hepzibahs. Not a particularly large church, either, I don’t think.

I prefer [name_f]Hepzibah[/name_f], tbh.

But yes, I think I see the appeal. It’s cute in a somewhat clunky way :)!

I’m touched to see [name_f]Hephzibah[/name_f] mentioned because she’s an old favourite of mine, courtesy of [name_m]Silas[/name_m] Marner. I used to mention her on one of my old Nameberry incarnations when I was a youngster, but people would react so badly that I stopped. She’s never gone off my mental list of names I would consider if I had children, though.

Keep the H in the middle! Part of the charm is in the overload of letters flying in different directions, like a country girl with long hair on a windy day.

I prefer [name_f]Hepzibah[/name_f], only because she would probably have her name misspelled less
I’m personally not a fan but I can see the appeal! It kind of reminds me of [name_f]Hestia[/name_f]

I prefer [name_f]Hepzibah[/name_f], it’s just much easier to spell!
When my sister was born the woman in the bed next to my mum had also just had a girl and named her [name_f]Hepzibah[/name_f] Skylark! I can totally see the appeal of [name_f]Hepzibah[/name_f], I feel a similar way about [name_f]Mehitabel[/name_f]. I do love the idea of [name_f]Hestia[/name_f] too.

Nope… I can’t see the appeal, sorry. But I do agree that the nickname options are pretty funky!

I actually really like the sound of [name_f]Hephzibah[/name_f]/[name_f]Hepzibah[/name_f], and also became familiar with it through [name_m]Silas[/name_m] Marner, like @kew. I know that the first spelling is the more traditional of the two, but I think the second is more likely to be pronounced and spelled correctly. I love nicknames [name_f]Eppie[/name_f] and [name_f]Zibby[/name_f].

Also, I do think that it might work better in the middle alongside your other kids, as it’s a lot of name in comparison to theirs, if I’m remembering them correctly!

I can see the appeal, however I have a lot of trouble saying it; I know how to pronounce it, but it is just such a mouthful!

[name_u]Love[/name_u] this description! You’ve convinced me

@maered Yes, [name_f]Mehitabel[/name_f] is a favourite of mine too - both wonderfully witchy and feline!

@prettygirl Yes, I don’t think I’d actually use it as a first, but it’s been playing on my mind lately as it’s such fun to say!
