Let my start by saying [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is and always has been in my top 3, most likely that’s not going to change. But I’ve always loved [name_f]Belle[/name_f] and [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] seems like such a pretty name and could give me [name_f]Belle[/name_f] as a nickname while still retaining what I love about [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]. I mean it’s really just 2 more letters, right?
I haven’t read or watched all the [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] movies, I’m sure I will as my kids get older though. Does that matter that much? I remember when Twilight was big and those names where cautioned against and now it’s irrelevant. I know HP is bigger but still. [name_m]How[/name_m] horrible is the character?
Could I use [name_f]Belle[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]? I know it doesn’t make sense but, I probably can’t use it as a middle and [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f] is just so cute.
I prefer [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f]. I love her character, but I’ve always had a thing for great fictional villains. [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] just feels too prissy for me.
While I do prefer [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], I find [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] to be usable regardless of the HP association (and I have read all the books at least 3 times)
No, I do not think just [name_f]Belle[/name_f] makes much sense as a nickname for [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] but I could see [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f] work somehow
The character is horrible, but I am a [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m]'s fan through and through and it still doesn’t stop me from using the name (I have [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] on my list too). I think it’s breathtakingly beautiful. It means female warrior which is badass and it’s one bright star in the sky. I really like [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] too, but my vote goes easily for [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f].
[name_f]Belle[/name_f] as a nn for [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] doesn’t make sense, imo, maybe name her [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] instead so you can get your [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f]?
I think [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] is usable. I agree that [name_f]Belle[/name_f] doesn’t particularly make sense as a nickname for [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f].
It’s been a long time since I’ve read a [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] book and from what I recall the character is fairly minor. In any case it’s been a few years since the last [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] film came out so I think the association is fading among the general public.
I know [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] is the name of a star or some celestial body, but to me it’s one of those needless embellishments on a name that is needs no adornments, [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f].
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] has so many great qualities. It has history, presence, a fun “x” in the end, and a little girl might enjoy the “princessy” aspect of it, while still being serious and sophisticated on an adult. It’s just a great name.
[name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] is, in my opinion, less inspired and more pretentious, but I must confess I have a strong view on names that go down the [name_f]Belle[/name_f]/[name_f]Bella[/name_f] route, and [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] annoys me to no end. So my bias is absolutely showing.
I do like [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] for good reasons, though.
I like the meaning and star connection with [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f], as well as how unusual it is. I don’t mind the HP character (she’s a great character and villain, and I didn’t hate her), and I think you could get away with it if people around you aren’t into HP either.
On the other hand, I also love [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]‘s meaning, and associations; [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] and a character who also made me love [name_f]Trixie[/name_f]. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though where I live popularity is a downside, it’s a long time favourite of mine, and I’m determined to use it, which is why I have it as a middle for my favourite girls’ name. My vote has to go to [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]. I think you could maybe just use [name_f]Belle[/name_f] as a family nn, or as suggested incorporate it into the middle.
[name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] is a star or star cluster (I can’t quite remember) and in [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] is very evil but it is a very pretty name and nicknames [name_f]Belle[/name_f], [name_f]Bella[/name_f] and [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] are adorable.
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is also very pretty and I like nicknames [name_f]Bea[/name_f] and [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] but I don’t think you could get away with calling her [name_f]Belle[/name_f] if you chose this.
Overall, I would go for [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f]: it’s gorgeous, has a nickname you love and also portrays your love for [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f].
I’m very surprised by the lack of hatred towards [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f]. I was really expecting everyone to say it’s awful. The fact that that wasn’t the overwhelming opinion is making me really consider it.
I love [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] mostly because of [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_m]Potter[/name_m]. Well, not mostly but I’m a big [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] fan so it’s a big perk. I kind of feel like the closeness is enough for it to still be connected to her. I love [name_f]Bee[/name_f] as a nickname but our last name starts with B and I don’t love [name_f]BeBe[/name_f], but figure it’s inevitable. If it was [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] we’d probably use [name_f]Belle[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Bee[/name_f] and [name_f]Bebe[/name_f] would be more easily avoided.
I adore [name_f]Betsey[/name_f] and have considered it as a nickname for [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] but think it’s kind of a stretch, especially when [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] is right there!
I’ve been searching for a new perfect name because we’re trying for a baby again and I’d thought we were past [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], but I’m remembering that it topped our list for a reason. It ticks pretty much all the boxes for me.
I have a couple ancestors named [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]/[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] would still be a nod to them? Anyone know if the names are related?
We’re planning on the double middle name [name_f]Ann[/name_f] [name_f]Hope[/name_f] but
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] [name_f]Hope[/name_f]
[name_m]Just[/name_m] crossed my mind. Maybe it would solve all my problems. What do you guys think?
Also. I loved [name_f]Belle[/name_f] and [name_f]Bella[/name_f] until [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] got so popular. And then Twilight happened and it was like a huge no no to use any name from Twilight, so it ended up dropping from my list. But I’ve been a preschool teacher for 5 years and have only had one [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] who only occasionall goes by [name_f]Bella[/name_f]. No other [name_f]Belle[/name_f] variations at all. SO. I feel like it’s safe and still interesting enough where I live. Also [name_f]Belle[/name_f] has always been my favorite princess and both my boys have Disney names. It’s mostly a coincidence but we do love Disney in our house so it’s not a terrible connection.
I much prefer [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]. I don’t see any problem at all with using [name_f]Belle[/name_f], or [name_f]Betsey[/name_f], as a nn for [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f].
I think [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is strong, classic and beautiful. [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] sounds made up to me and I’m not sure it exists outside of JK Rowling (correct me if I’m wrong!)
Why can’t you use something [name_f]Belle[/name_f] related as a middle? [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Bella[/name_f]? [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f]? [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]? [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]?
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is a lovely name, reminds me of [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_m]Potter[/name_m]. Personally would not use [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] because of the obvious [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] reference. After all she wasn’t a particularly nice character. [name_f]Lavender[/name_f], [name_f]Luna[/name_f], and [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] are probably better HP related names. [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] also sounds similar to [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] and [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f]
I love [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] ([name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] even more); [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] strikes me as rather too theatrical for everyday use.
It existed as the name of a star long before JK Rowling ever used it. =] In fact, Rowling got the name from the star as a large number of the [name_m]Black[/name_m] family are named directly after stars.
I can’t disassociate [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] from the character from HP, so I wouldn’t ever use it. She was a fantastic villain and I’d have to disagree with a pp who said she was minor. She was downright evil and she didn’t need to be in the books a ton to have a huge impact. haha Anyway, for me personally, I could never use it. However, I do see the appeal. It is quite a pretty name when I’m not associating it with an ugly character. I do still really hate the nn [name_f]Bella[/name_f], though, so that’s another reason I could never use it.
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], on the other hand, is adorable. I agree with previous posters in saying it is classy, fun, and has history. Plus, I also enjoy the [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] connection. That’s our nursery theme, actually, haha If it were me, I’d go with [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]. If I were to use a nn from it, I’d use [name_f]Bea[/name_f] or [name_f]Trix[/name_f], not [name_f]Trixie[/name_f]. [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] just makes me think of a small dog, unfortunately. And yes, I know [name_f]Trix[/name_f] is (was?..does this still exist?) a type of cereal, but I don’t really think of that honestly.
