I prefer [name_m]Beau[/name_m] pronounced [name_u]Bo[/name_u], because I have studied [name_m]French[/name_m] (however basically), and I cannot see it any other way. I’m not a big fan of [name_m]Beau[/name_m] pronounced the way [name_m]Beau[/name_m] in beautiful is, and it doesn’t make a lot of sense to me, or many other people (who would automatically say it as [name_u]Bo[/name_u]), but I adore the [name_m]French[/name_m] [name_m]Beau[/name_m] (it reminds me of the word bow, or ribbons and gifts. I would see a little [name_m]Beau[/name_m] as a gift.) If you were to say it the ‘beautiful’ way, I personally would spell it Bue / Bew to avoid confusion.
I think [name_u]Bo[/name_u] [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] sounds nicer, even though there is the rhyme of [name_u]Bo[/name_u] and ‘[name_f]Ro[/name_f]’, but I think it works. Good luck!
In all honesty, I think the beautiful sound sounds better than bow - but I still read it as bow. Sorry, but I think you should stick with the bow pronunciation.
I think the [name_u]Bo[/name_u] pronunciation will cause less confusion and still sounds okay with the surname
Thank you for your opinions! Looks like everyone prefers ‘bo’ c:
It’s very surprising since all of my friends pronounces [name_m]Beau[/name_m] like “Beautiful” and find “bo” weird.
I voted for “[name_u]Bo[/name_u]” but I think “[name_m]Beau[/name_m]” sounds better with a surname of [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], but as a reader I would automatically think it was supposed to be “[name_u]Bo[/name_u]” and wouldn’t know the characters name is actually “[name_m]Beau[/name_m]” without being told.
[name_m]Beau[/name_m] pronounced [name_m]Bow[/name_m] is a favorite of mine. [name_m]Beau[/name_m] pronounced like Beautiful? Not so much. All I think of is how it rhymes with “Phew”/“Pee-yew”, the noise made when something smells nasty.
I’ve never heard of it being pronounced “byew”
Honestly, I think it’s a bit unpleasant–reminds me of pew (as in stinky) [EDIT:] “also, just like jess0044”
If you really like that sound, what about Butte? Pronounced byoot. It’s a word for an isolated hill. There’s a county in [name_u]California[/name_u] named Butte. I guess you could spell it Beaut as well.
I just don’t know anyone who, knowing that it’s a name, would pronounce it byew. It’s sorta like saying that [name_u]Evan[/name_u] should be pronounced eee-ven rather than ehh-ven, or that [name_m]Paul[/name_m] should be pronounced pow-uhl.
I’m not pronouncing it byew, I am like the beginning of Beautiful/rhyming with few/rhyming with pew - which I find unpleasant. Not sure where the confusion came in there but I apologize for it.
I was agreeing with you, sorry, I didn’t point it out
I meant to say, I also have the connection of byew with phew/pee-yew
Oh. Hahaha. Sorry!
+1 I’ve never heard of anyone pronouncing it “byew” either. Honestly, I mostly clicked on this thread because I was trying to figure out how there could be multiple pronunciations of [name_m]Beau[/name_m] floating around out there, because I’ve never heard of anything other than the traditional “bow.”
“[name_f]Bee[/name_f]-yew” sounds like “Pew”? D:
Alright, thank you for your opinions!
