Beeley?? and wondering opinions on a few others

Have you ever heard of this one? Beeley?? I was looking through forum posts and came across this one. It strikes me as simple and spunky. Easy to pronounce and spell. A little nick namey, I suppose, but I kind of like it.

I have been looking at names that strike me as odd, spunky, happy names this week. Some I wouldn’t actually use, some I would but my husband wouldn’t dream of it, and a couple might actually go on the list. Here is what I have. I would love your commentary on the names and suggestions of more this style. Thanks!

Beeley
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
[name_f]Tillie[/name_f]
[name_m]Digby[/name_m]
[name_u]Tally[/name_u]
[name_f]Posy[/name_f]/ [name_f]Posey[/name_f]
[name_u]Marley[/name_u]/ [name_f]Marlo[/name_f]
[name_f]Sally[/name_f]
[name_f]Mosley[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f]
[name_u]Juniper[/name_u]

I think that Beeley in terms of sound is great; I would probably spell it differently though, more like a variant of [name_m]Beal[/name_m] than [name_f]Bee[/name_f]. Bealie/Beallie. It sounds like a nn name like Kiely. Bealie could be a nn for [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]/[name_f]Beulah[/name_f]/[name_f]Belinda[/name_f]? All in all I wouldn’t pick this but I like the creativity.
[name_u]Marley[/name_u]
[name_u]Juniper[/name_u]
[name_m]Digby[/name_m]

  • I like those three

I actually don’t agree that it’s easy to spell – if I asked a child her name and she said “Beeley,” I’d ask her how to spell it. If I didn’t have the option of asking, I’d probably go with “Bealy.”

Thoughts on the others –

[name_f]Poppy[/name_f]: Sweet, although not 100% sure how it would age.
[name_f]Tillie[/name_f]: Sweet – although again, not sure how it would age – she might want a more formal name for use on resumes, job applications, etc.
[name_m]Digby[/name_m]: Dislike, too harsh sounding starting with the sound “dig.” What about [name_u]Darby[/name_u] or [name_f]Dagney[/name_f]?
[name_u]Tally[/name_u]: Very cute, but again, not sure about how it would age – she might want a more formal name for use on resumes, job applications, etc.
[name_f]Posy[/name_f]/[name_f]Posey[/name_f]: Cute, but I really can not envision this name on a young woman in the business world, for example… [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] with nn [name_f]Posey[/name_f] is slightly better?
[name_u]Marley[/name_u]/[name_f]Marlo[/name_f]: Cute. Also have the [name_u]Marlow[/name_u] or [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] spelling as an option.
[name_f]Sally[/name_f]: Cute, but maybe too dated – but it does work for a person of any age.
[name_f]Mosley[/name_f]: Dislike – too masculine sounding to me.
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f]: Darling, and ages better than any other on this list (most appropriate for an adult).
[name_u]Juniper[/name_u]: I like it.

And a couple questions: What are your thoughts… Why does [name_f]Sally[/name_f] work but [name_u]Tally[/name_u] won’t age well? Same with [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] and [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] or [name_f]Posey[/name_f]. They sound and feel the same to me.

my favorites:
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
[name_f]Tillie[/name_f]
[name_f]Posy[/name_f]/ [name_f]Posey[/name_f] - and [name_f]Poesy[/name_f] “composition, poetry”

Honestly, when I see someone post about a name not aging well it makes me roll my eyes. Names age because people age. Their are billions of people in this world with all styles of names. Plus how do they explain this “rule”, why do some names work and others don’t? Why does this “rule” change to fit their tastes? Many of the “rules” are silly. I do know that their “rules” will change when they are naming an actual human being. It is much different than creating lists.

You need to choose the names you love and adore.

Personally I’m not a fan of Beeley, at all. To me it’s like someone messed up the spelling/pronounciation of [name_u]Bailey[/name_u]. I do love lots of the others on your list though!

[name_f]Poppy[/name_f] - This one has really been growing on me lately!
[name_f]Tillie[/name_f] - I like it, but prefer it as a nickname, especially for [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_u]Tally[/name_u] - I love the ‘[name_u]Tal[/name_u]’ sound. Clearly, as [name_f]Tala[/name_f] is one of my top girls, and I like [name_f]Talia[/name_f] a lot as well.
[name_f]Posey[/name_f] - Same feel as [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] imo, and has been winning me over lately as well.
[name_u]Marley[/name_u]/[name_f]Marlo[/name_f] - Strongly prefer [name_f]Marlo[/name_f] over [name_u]Marley[/name_u]. I think it’s got such a ‘cool girl’ vibe to it.
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] - I’ve always thought of [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] as a ‘cool girl’ as well.
[name_u]Juniper[/name_u] - Gorgeous! Also really like [name_f]Junie[/name_f]/[name_u]June[/name_u] as possible nicknames.

Some other names that give me a happy/spunky vibe:
[name_f]Tala[/name_f] - similar to [name_f]Tillie[/name_f]/[name_u]Tally[/name_u]. It means wolf & I just picture a happy little dark-haired girl.
[name_u]Keeley[/name_u] - I can’t say why I like [name_u]Keeley[/name_u] and not Beeley, considering they’re so close, but I just get a different vibe from [name_u]Keeley[/name_u].
[name_f]Kyla[/name_f]
[name_u]Skye[/name_u]
[name_f]Juno[/name_f] - When I think odd & spunky I think of [name_f]Juno[/name_f]. To me she’s the ultimate cool girl.
[name_f]Una[/name_f]/[name_f]Oona[/name_f] - I think of an out-doorsy girl when I think of [name_f]Una[/name_f].
[name_f]Pippa[/name_f]
[name_f]Tessa[/name_f]
[name_f]Gigi[/name_f] - I love this one as a nickname for [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], but it could be used for just about any names that start with G.

As much as I love [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], I find it way too close to papi and if you are in an area with a lot of spanish speakers it could be an issue.

I don’t have many names to add, but since you like [name_u]Sydney[/name_u] you might also like [name_f]Signy[/name_f]. Also: [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u] and [name_f]Elsie[/name_f].

I like [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], [name_f]Posey[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], and [name_u]Juniper[/name_u]… All charming
