Bel Options

[name_m]How[/name_m] do you pronounce [name_f]Arabel[/name_f]-- [name_f]Air[/name_f]-ah-be or are-ah-bel? I prefer [name_f]Air[/name_f]-ah-bel. It’s a mn option so not a big deal, I’m just curious.

I’m due in [name_u]December[/name_u] and we are not finding out the gender until birth. The first name for our maybe girl is still up in the air, so I’m exploring middle name options to help out some. Someone in my other thread suggested Belline/[name_f]Beline[/name_f] as a mn. [name_u]Love[/name_u] it, it is a front runner as a mn choice. We have three first name options. I’m not going to post them on this thread because I just want to see any [name_f]Bel[/name_f] options, whether or not they flow best with our choices. If you’re curious you can look up my other thread.

We use first and middle names frequently with our girls. My daughter [name_f]Anna[/name_f] gets called [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] sometimes even though her name is [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. I like the idea of being able to do that again. So ____ [name_f]Arabel[/name_f] or ____ [name_f]Bel[/name_f]. I’ve also considered just [name_f]Belle[/name_f] and [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] as a mn. I don’t care for [name_f]Isabel[/name_f]/[name_f]Isabelle[/name_f], and [name_f]Amabel[/name_f]. Also, [name_f]Annabel[/name_f]/[name_f]Annabelle[/name_f]/[name_f]Anabel[/name_f] is out due to [name_f]Anna[/name_f] being one of my girls name. Any other [name_f]Bel[/name_f] ideas? We have other none [name_f]Bel[/name_f] combos we like a lot, I just want to see of there are any other bel names I’m missing. Thanks in advance!

Note: We do not care for any the names ending in [name_f]Bella[/name_f] or [name_f]Bel[/name_f] spelled as [name_f]Belle[/name_f]. However, as I said earlier we do like just [name_f]Belle[/name_f] as a stand alone mn. just not [name_f]Bella[/name_f]. I’d also be open to names that mean [name_u]Bell[/name_u]/Chime, or possibly Beautiful.

I was going to say Rosabel, but not with an [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] (pretty name BTW). There’s [name_f]Belinda[/name_f], but that sounds fussy with the FNs you like. [name_f]Abella[/name_f] and [name_f]Abelia[/name_f] have internal Bels.

I would say [name_f]Arabel[/name_f] [name_f]AIR[/name_f]-ah-bel.

[name_f]Bel[/name_f]- ending names that I can think of - not necessarily suggesting all these, just tossing out the ones I can think of:
[name_f]Christabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Mirabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Carabel[/name_f]
[name_u]Sabel[/name_u]
[name_f]Elizabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Claribel[/name_f]
[name_f]Maybell[/name_f]
[name_f]Sybel[/name_f]
[name_f]Zabelle[/name_f]

@isolieth- Rosabel is beautiful. Sadly I don’t think that’ll work either. :frowning:
[name_f]Abella[/name_f] might be an exception to the [name_f]Bella[/name_f] rule. I do like it. And wow, I missed a lot of Names ending in [name_f]Bel[/name_f]. [name_f]Claribel[/name_f] intrigues me because another mn choice we have is [name_f]Claira[/name_f]/[name_f]Claire[/name_f]. [name_f]Mirabel[/name_f] intrigues me also, is it. [name_f]Myra[/name_f]-bel or Meer-ah-bel?

I’m open to an “internal” [name_f]Bel[/name_f] names or any names being in [name_f]Bel[/name_f] if there are any more.

I would say [name_f]Arabel[/name_f] not quite like [name_f]Air[/name_f]-a-bel, with the A sounding like the A in “cat.”

And I’ve met a [name_f]Mirabelle[/name_f] who pronounced it Meer-ah-bell, which I think is the normal way of saying it.

Other -bel names:

[name_f]Mehitabel[/name_f]
Idabel
Belphoebe
[name_f]Bel[/name_f]-imperia
[name_f]Sybella[/name_f]
[name_f]Maribel[/name_f]
[name_f]Ishbel[/name_f]
[name_f]Belinda[/name_f]
and maybe Aibileen, if you change the spelling to Abeline/Aibeline?

@geeknamezyo- That is pretty much how I say it as well. I didn’t know how to explain that. [name_f]Belinda[/name_f] is my not-so-nice aunts name, so I think that is out. [name_u]Abilene[/name_u] is a name my husband and I talked about a long time ago when were traveling through [name_u]Texas[/name_u]- it’s a city there. We really like it but somehow it got “lost” in all this naming mess we are in. I’ll add Abeline (spelled this way) to the mn list. [name_f]Maribel[/name_f] is sweet and could honor my grandma [name_u]Marion[/name_u]. I’m saying it as [name_f]Mar[/name_f]-ah-bel? Or is it [name_f]Mar[/name_f]-ee-bel? I’m hopeless :frowning:

So far I’m liking…
Belline
[name_f]Isobel[/name_f]
[name_f]Belle[/name_f]
[name_f]Maribel[/name_f]
Abeline
[name_f]Claribel[/name_f]
[name_f]Maybell[/name_f]- seems like a “smooshed” name to me, but I like it and it brings [name_f]May[/name_f] back onto the table. I nixed it because it’s a family name already being used as a first name. Thinking about [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] even though it isn’t said quite like [name_f]Maybell[/name_f].

My husband said no to [name_f]Mirabel[/name_f] and [name_f]Abella[/name_f]. Sigh.

Thank you everyone!

There is an obscure Tolkien name, Belmarie, which I think is pretty and not too exotic. Or I have heard a [name_m]French[/name_m] version before [name_f]Belle[/name_f]-[name_f]Marie[/name_f], which is also very pretty. Good luck!

[name_f]Mabel[/name_f] and Belphoebe are my suggestions.
