I’m starting to really like [name_f]Belle[/name_f] as a full first name. I think it’s really sweet and wearable on all ages. I don’t mind that its only one syllable, I like several other 1 syllable names ([name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Grace[/name_f] included.) My hesitations for adding it to my favorites list:
It sounds slightly nickname-y
A [name_f]Belle[/name_f] could get lost in the sea of [name_f]Bella[/name_f]'s, [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]'s, [name_f]Ella[/name_f]'s and [name_f]Elle[/name_f]'s around here
Some could immediately associate with the Disney [name_f]Princess[/name_f]. I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] Beauty and the Beast, it’s my favorite Disney movie, but would it seem as though a girl named [name_f]Belle[/name_f] was named specifically FOR the Disney princess? I love the character, but it’s a perk of the name for me, not the reason I like it.
I would agree the name would be lost in the sea of other similar sounding names.
I wouldn’t assume you named her after the Disney princess, but I would make the connection that she shares her name with one (if that makes sense).
[name_f]Belle[/name_f] is underrated. It’s sweet and simple, and [name_m]WAY[/name_m] less used than [name_f]Bella[/name_f] (Thanks, Twilight.) And hey, I’m an avid Disney movie viewer too, but I don’t think anyone will be throwing insults at your little girl just because she shares her name with a princess; just think, there are plenty of [name_u]Ariel[/name_u]'s, [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f]'s, [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]'s, in the world. Maybe less [name_f]Cinderella[/name_f]'s, but you catch my drift. [name_f]Belle[/name_f] has a whole lot of promise, I think!
I do love [name_f]Belle[/name_f]. It seems so simple and sweet and I don’t think it comes across as nicknamey (though the slightly longer [name_f]Bella[/name_f] does).
I love the idea of [name_f]Bluebell[/name_f] as a family nickname for [name_f]Belle[/name_f]. And don’t worry about the Disney [name_f]Princess[/name_f] connection, people may think of the character (and she is a cool character) but I doubt anyone would think you named her for the [name_f]Princess[/name_f], it’s not like [name_f]Cinderella[/name_f] or anything.
I agree with this. A friend of mine from high school named her daughter [name_f]Belle[/name_f] and it really stood out to me as being simple and refreshing. Yes, it’s similar to [name_f]Bella[/name_f] and [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] but at the same time, being just [name_f]Belle[/name_f] is different and unexpected. [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]'s often go by [name_u]Izzy[/name_u], not [name_f]Belle[/name_f] and [name_f]Bella[/name_f] is [name_f]Bella[/name_f].
I wouldn’t think a girl named [name_f]Belle[/name_f] was named for the Disney character. If anything, I think of it being the [name_m]French[/name_m] word for beautiful before [name_f]Princess[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f].
I love [name_f]Belle[/name_f] on it’s own! ([name_m]Don[/name_m]'t like [name_f]Bella[/name_f] though.) It was high up on my list at one time. [name_f]Belle[/name_f] just has this charm that I really like. It’s beautiful, it means “beautiful”, it’s princess-y. It makes me think of lace, ribbons, bows, and elaborate princess dresses. It’s classy and elegant, but girly, sweet, and fun at the same time. I love it! I don’t think [name_f]Belle[/name_f] sounds nickname-y at all. I don’t think the Beauty and the Beast connection makes it unusable either (it adds to it for me). Nickname options? [name_f]Belle[/name_f] doesn’t need a nickname in my opinion. It’s only one syllable, and it’s very easy to say. I wouldn’t want to hide [name_f]Belle[/name_f] behind a nickname anyway, it’s too pretty.
[name_f]Belle[/name_f] is on my favorite list. It’s very underrated; I’ve never met anyone that was just [name_f]Belle[/name_f]. It feels strong and more mature and serious than [name_f]Bella[/name_f] so I really don’t think it would get lost
I love [name_f]Belle[/name_f]… It is on my list for middle names because my great aunt I am very close with is [name_f]Betty[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f]… I say GO FOR IT. I think it is not commonly used. I love the sweet simplicity. What little girl wouldn’t love having the same name as a Disney princess?
I really want to love [name_f]Belle[/name_f], but i know a few little Belles and at least half of them were named that specifically because their mothers wanted their name to mean “beauty” and now it seems shallow when i hear it
I still prefer [name_f]Belle[/name_f] to [name_f]Bella[/name_f], but both feel incomplete as names to me
