I am starting to like it. What do you think ? Is it too much on its own or does it work fine on its own?
I actually am starting to like it too! I find it prettier and more versatile than the ubiquitous [name_f]Bella[/name_f], and I think it has a striking simplicity as a full name on its own. It is somewhat tied to the [name_f]Disney[/name_f] princess, but not overwhelmingly so (there are lots of Ariels and Tianas out there after all).
I adore [name_f]Belle[/name_f]!
She’s absolutely gorgeous really bright, sparkly, sweet and has a melodic sound. For me [name_f]Belle[/name_f] is magical with a Christmassy flair and deserves to shine as a name in her own right. I work with a lady who has a teenage daughter named [name_f]Belle[/name_f] and she says all she gets compliments all the time about her name. I have the combination [name_f]Belle[/name_f] [name_f]Filomena[/name_f] [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] on my list.
I loove [name_f]Belle[/name_f] - one of my favorite names since I was little! After [name_f]Princess[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f], of course.
I’d say that she definitely works on her own. She’s elegant but playful, sparkly but serious! I also love her as a middle.
I love [name_f]Belle[/name_f], but only as a middle name. I know a [name_f]Belle[/name_f] and when I first met her I was so confused hearing someone I work with use her name because I heard it as “Bill”. That might just be a southern drawl problem, but it’s happened multiple other times with other people saying it where I misheard it as “Bill”.
[name_f]Belle[/name_f] is simply lovely
I think it’s fine on its own but it’s too common for my own personal taste.
[name_f]Belle[/name_f] is sweet, simple and bright - I think it works. I’ve met a [name_f]Belle[/name_f] who carried it well
I really like it!
I love [name_f]Belle[/name_f]!
I really like it, it just sounds awful in my accent (I don’t pronounce my Ls if they’re at the end of a word, so it’s like “behw”)
I remember when I was an exchange student in [name_u]France[/name_u] they told me that the name was a cat’s name. Now I just think of a bell though like a bell. Not my style.
I suggested [name_f]Belle[/name_f] to my brother and SIL for their DD and they used it, so I have an 8 year old [name_f]Belle[/name_f]. It works really well - it’s a strong, confident, one syllable name with all of the “beautiful” associations. She never gets anything else from what I can tell.
I only like it as a nickname.
[name_f]Belle[/name_f] is a favourite of mine and it did come up when we were expecting our daughter, but ultimately we didn’t use it. I would love to see it as a more standalone name, I think it’s so lovely.
ive always loved the name belle! it was the name of my best friend, and everytime i think of the name, i think of how she was. it’s a gorgeous name, and i 100% believe it can work by itself! i’ve always loved her as a middle as an honor, but i think it’s stunning as a first. it’s also part of my username as we can tell
That’s true, in France it would be ok for a cat, but you wouldn’t use it on a person, it’s like calling your kid Beautiful or Gorgeous. It’s like Beau, it sounds incredibly obnoxious.
In the story of Beauty and the Beast, Belle isn’t originally the princess’s name, she’s called “la belle”, the beauty, meaning a beautiful girl, but it’s a description and not her given name.
It’s been used long enough in the US though so it is a name of its own here and it works fine.
(I still can’t get used to Beau, Bo feels better because it’s not the same etymology)
I love it!!! Such a great name on its own. By far of all [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] family names, [name_f]Belle[/name_f] as a stand-alone is the best to me. Literary and lofty, fresh and bright. Sooo gorgeous
