I’ve never read or seen anything Twilight related but it’s impossible not to know about this name coming from Twilight. When I first saw someone on my FB name their baby [name_f]Renesmee[/name_f], I couldn’t for the life of me figure out what the heck her name was…I’d never heard of it at this point. Had to google and then learned how to pronounce and where it came from. Honestly do not think people would ever get past the Twilight association. I also have a girl on my FB who named her baby just Esmee…I still don’t like that. [name_m]Just[/name_m] not a sound I like.
It will always be a twilight name. [name_m]Just[/name_m] chose one or the other maybe [name_f]Renee[/name_f] [name_f]Esme[/name_f] or even [name_f]Wren[/name_f] [name_f]Esme[/name_f] but I still think twilight.
It will always be a twilight name because the author invented it for the story!
"[name_f]Renesmee[/name_f] is one of the most celebrated characters in The Twilight [name_f]Saga[/name_f], but author [name_f]Stephenie[/name_f] [name_m]Meyer[/name_m] is “disturbed” that the name has become a trend among new parents!
“I am someone who strongly believes in reality, and that you don’t monkey around with people’s names. Whether they become a stripper or a lawyer has a large part to do with the name you give them. I would never name a real child [name_f]Renesmee[/name_f],” [name_f]Stephenie[/name_f] told Entertainment Weekly.
[name_f]Stephenie[/name_f]’s responded to the idea of [name_f]Renesmee[/name_f] as a trending name saying, ”That really disturbs me.”
^ I was just going to comment that I was 99% sure the author came out as saying the name was intentionally ridiculous and she’d never use it on a real child.
I only read the first 3 Twilight books before I hated the main characters so much I actually threw the books away (I’m a bit of a book hoarder, so if I hate something enough to throw it away it’s a deep, fiery hatred). I never read about the [name_f]Renesmee[/name_f] character, and the first time I heard who she was and what her name was I genuinely thought my friends, who were telling me, were playing a joke on me.
I don’t think a kid named [name_f]Renesmee[/name_f] could be taken seriously by anyone. Everyone knows what the name is from, and even if you explained you weren’t a Twi-hard, they wouldn’t believe you. It could affect your daughter a lot because of assumptions that will be made about you/her due to the name. I remember taking an undergrad literature class, and the first day this girl walked in with a Twilight shirt on and gushed about it being her favorite book and I kind of assumed from that first day that she had no taste in literature and would probably do poorly in the class (which is an unfair assumption for me to have made, but in her case turned out to be true). I don’t treat people differently based on their names, but I will admit I sometimes pre-judge people based on them, and I dunno if I could ever take the mum of a [name_f]Renesmee[/name_f] seriously. That’s harsh, and I totally don’t mean it in a rude way; I’d never treat a [name_f]Renesmee[/name_f] or her family badly or anything, I’d just always have this thought in the back of my mind that her mother was ridiculous. And I’m aware it’s unfair, because I would definitely be open to using [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] as a name, and there are people who would think that was equally ridiculous. But it’s just how my brain associates those things.
The suggestion of Esmeree is gorgeous and 100% more usable! I’d never heard it before, so I’m off to research that!
I think it’s an annoying, made-up smoosh name that looks and sounds stupid with unpleasant associations.
Horrid name that was made up for a horrid series. Please don’t.
Awful name. It’s ugly looking, ugly sounding. I remember the first time I read it in the book. I was so disappointed because the rest of the names in the series are lovely. It makes sense I guess because [name_f]Bella[/name_f] is a horrid character and everyone else in the book hates the name, too.
It will always be a “Twilight name” because it was invented for Twilight.
