how usable is [name_f]Benjamina[/name_f] nn [name_f]Minnie[/name_f]?
have we considered
[name_f]Minerva[/name_f]
[name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f]
[name_f]Vilma[/name_f]
[name_f]Wilma[/name_f]
[name_f]Velma[/name_f]
I think those would be more usable for that nickname ![]()
It’s definitely clunky, but I think it’s usable. I don’t think there’s anything particularly tease-able or unpleasant about it. “Boys name + A” is such a common pattern for girls’ names that it feels more familiar than it is. Plus the many nickname options give her options if she’s not into the full name (I love [name_f]Minnie[/name_f], by the way).
I love Benjamina!! She’s been on my long list a long time. She’s sweet, sophisticated, and familiar without being too popular.
[name_f]Benjamina[/name_f] nn [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] works great & is very sweet.
(I also don’t find [name_f]Benjamina[/name_f] clunky at all, or at least not any more than [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m])
[name_f]Benjamina[/name_f] isn’t my favorite feminization nor full name for Minnie—but I do think it works. I don’t love feminization’s that feel like it obvious ties to the masculine name, but I do think [name_f]Benjamina[/name_f] has a pleasant sound, and I’m a huge fan of [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m].
Good luck!
[name_f]Benjamina[/name_f]
is great and a long time on my long list! Also love [name_m]Benjamine[/name_m] and Batjamin.
Usable but will definitely attract comments as unusual when the masc version so popular & established.
I’m more of a [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] fan for a similar looking/sounding name.
It depends on what criteria you consider when deciding if a name is usable or not for you, but as @EagleEyes said, there is nothing inherently negative about [name_f]Benjamina[/name]. I like it a lot personally, it may be old-fashioned and slightly “clunky”, but that is precisely what I find endearing! ![]()
I actually quite like [name_f]Benjamina[/name_f], it’s a route to plenty of cool gender neutral nicknames like [name_m]Benji[/name_m], [name_m]Benny[/name_m], [name_m]Jem[/name_m] - but using the contrastingly feminine [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] is a fabulous idea (Mina would also work). I’m just imagining meeting a little [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] and then discovering it’s short for something unexpected - how fun ![]()
I love [name_f]Benjamina[/name_f]! [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] as a nickname is perhaps not my style, but I do think it’s cute, and I agree with @persephonescrown that meeting a little [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] and finding out it was short for [name_f]Benjamina[/name_f] would be delightful.
I think it is usable and believe there may have been one on a season of the [name_f]British[/name_f] Bake Off.
[name_f]Minnie[/name_f] is usable. [name_f]Benjamina[/name_f] is too, but I can see it attracting more negative comments than I would personally be comfortable with.
[name_m]Not[/name_m] a fan, sorry.
Personally I like [name_f]Benjamina[/name_f]!
I don’t like the nickname [name_f]Minnie[/name_f], but if you do, go for it! I think you’ll have less problems with [name_f]Benjamina[/name_f] than others are expecting - but I guess it does depend on where you live too.
I don’t find [name_f]Benjamina[/name_f] clunky.
I like it!
It’s not my favorite but it’s not really that bad either. It feels like it could fit among names like [name_f]Thomasina[/name_f] and [name_f]Michaela[/name_f]. I’d choose [name_m]Benni[/name_m] as a nickname
I came to say similar! I like [name_f]Benjamina[/name_f], but [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] is one of my favourite boys names. I’d rather use [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] for a boy than [name_f]Benjamina[/name_f] for a girl. But I like those clunky vintage names (I say it is clunky but I don’t see that as a bad thing - clunky names have been getting more popular!). It does feel very similar to [name_f]Thomasina[/name_f] and I think they could be fun for sisters. One of my favourite nicknames for [name_f]Thomasina[/name_f] is [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] so I’d love the idea of two little girls [name_f]Benjamina[/name_f] and [name_f]Thomasina[/name_f] “Minnie and Maisie”
[name_f]Benjamina[/name_f] would be such an unexpected full name for [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] nowadays, I would love to see it! Overall it’s one of those names I’d love to see someone else use, but probably just wouldn’t get round to using it myself
Oh [name_f]Thomasina[/name_f] and [name_f]Benjamina[/name_f] nns [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] and [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] would be the SWEETEST
If [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f], [name_f]Bernardette[/name_f], and [name_f]Thomasina[/name_f] work, why not
it is clunky and unexpected but kind of quirky and grand at the same time
