Benji as a full name?

Hello! I’ve been recently crushing on [name_m]Benji[/name_m] as we are TTC our third and final child. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it is useable as a full name? [name_u]Or[/name_u] would you assume his full name is [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u]? Middle name would most likely be [name_m]Stephen[/name_m], and our other sons are [name_u]Levi[/name_u] and [name_u]Griffin[/name_u].

Other names we’ve considered/are considering:
[name_u]Wesley[/name_u]
[name_m]Alec[/name_m]
[name_u]Asa[/name_u]
[name_u]Zeke[/name_u]
[name_u]Callan[/name_u]
[name_u]Tate[/name_u]
[name_u]Sam[/name_u]

[name_m]Boy[/name_m] names are so hard for us! :no_mouth:

I think [name_m]Benji[/name_m] does sound like a nickname to me but it’s fine on its own as well. It goes great with other brothers’ names and definitely useable. Others i really like from your list are [name_u]Wesley[/name_u] and [name_u]Tate[/name_u].

My pregnant sister in law is thinking Benji for her baby, it’s a very happy making, fun name! I personally would use Benjamin so he can decide if he wants to be in a less cheeky chappy mood/take a more serious tone.

I am however good with Sam and Alec in shortened form bc they seem less cutesy/naughty! They’re handsome names but prob wouldn’t use Sam with Stephen.

I really like Alexander as well though - nn Alec or Xander.

I love [name_m]Benji[/name_m] and think it works perfectly fine as a full name - [name_m]Benji[/name_m] [name_m]Stephen[/name_m] is a handsome combo, too!

I agree with you that Sam and Alec are more useable for a first name! And yeah, Sam Stephen doesn’t flow the way I would like.

I love Benji, but really am having a hard time picturing it on a 50-year-old man introducing himself. I like Benjamin but wouldn’t be able to use it.

I love both [name_m]Benji[/name_m] and [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u] in full! I do think I would assume [name_m]Benji[/name_m] was short for [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u] but I don’t think it has to be. I can picture an adult [name_m]Benji[/name_m]. I also think he could always go by [name_m]Ben[/name_m] if he wanted something more “adult”.

I also love [name_u]Sam[/name_u] from your list!

[name_u]Benjamin[/name_u] didn’t even occur to me :joy: I must admit that [name_m]Benji[/name_m] isn’t a favorite of mine so I hadn’t thought much about it. I definitely think it works as a full name.

If you or he introduced himself as [name_m]Benji[/name_m], that’s what I’d call him. I may wonder if it was [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u], but, having known plenty of people with ‘nickname-y’ names, I wouldn’t make an assumption!

[name_m]Benji[/name_m] is great - substantial enough for me

I love it on it’s on. Name him what you’ll call him.

I agree with PP that [name_m]Ben[/name_m] is always an option if he’s a 50 year old magistrate. I think there will be loads of nickname names in his age group and one above and below anyway. [name_m]Benji[/name_m] [name_m]Stephen[/name_m] is a great name!

I would think [name_m]Benji[/name_m] was probably [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u] but wouldn’t assume he necessarily was. I agree with pp’s that he would have the option of going by [name_m]Ben[/name_m].
FWIW, my dad is [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u]. He goes by [name_m]Ben[/name_m] now, but as a little boy he was called [name_m]Benjie[/name_m], and he didn’t like it–I think because as he got a little older he thought of [name_m]Benjie[/name_m] as a little-kid nn? Only one person’s perspective, though.

I also like [name_m]Alec[/name_m] (more likely to be a standalone), [name_u]Sam[/name_u] (would think probably [name_m]Samuel[/name_m], but it works alone), and [name_u]Asa[/name_u]. Runners-up [name_u]Wesley[/name_u] and [name_u]Callan[/name_u].

IMHO [name_m]Benji[/name_m] sounds a bit….cute/childish? I would name him [name_m]Ben[/name_m] or [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u] and use [name_m]Benji[/name_m] as a nickname as either would work better for an adult in certain situations (thinking completing professional registration forms, his name on his office door, etc.).

I love [name_u]Callan[/name_u] with your other boys. [name_m]Benji[/name_m] is not a favorite of mine, but if you like it use it.
[name_u]Levi[/name_u], [name_u]Griffin[/name_u], and [name_u]Callan[/name_u].

I would assume [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u], probably because I’ve known several [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u] going by [name_m]Benji[/name_m]

I think [name_m]Benji[/name_m] can totally work on it’s own  And if he’s older and decides he doesn’t want that name, he can shorten to [name_m]Ben[/name_m]

I have a relative named [name_m]Benji[/name_m] and he goes by [name_m]Ben[/name_m]. You wouldn’t know his name was [name_m]Benji[/name_m] unless you looked at his birth certificate. With that said, I think that it could still be a first name. I like it!

I’m struggling with this also. It feels similar to naming a kid [name_u]Sammy[/name_u] instead of just [name_u]Sam[/name_u] or [name_m]Samuel[/name_m].

I do love [name_u]Levi[/name_u], [name_u]Griffin[/name_u] and [name_u]Callan[/name_u] as a sibset!

I also like [name_u]Callum[/name_u]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] another idea!!

[name_u]Levi[/name_u], [name_u]Griffin[/name_u], and [name_u]Callum[/name_u].

I think [name_m]Benji[/name_m] can work as a stand-alone name, it goes really nicely with your other kids names as well!
