I love the name [name_m]Bernard[/name_m]! I’d spell it that way. It’s already an unusual name and I think the more usual spelling (at least for English speakers) is for the best.
Thank you! That was another thought I had especially since we picked an unusual mn and live in the U.S. where [name_m]Bernhard[/name_m] might be even more confusing to pronounce.
Both my grandfather and uncle are [name_m]Bernard[/name_m], without the ‘h’. The ‘h’ makes me want to say it like its two seperate words not one whole name. Stick to [name_m]Bernard[/name_m].
I would stick to [name_m]Bernard[/name_m]. The “hard” part of [name_m]Bernhard[/name_m] just jumps out too much, which will make it more likely to be mispronounced and [name_m]Bernard[/name_m] is the typical spelling I think of so it would probably be misspelled a lot too.
I would use [name_m]Bernard[/name_m] in an English-speaking country.
[name_m]Bernard[/name_m] all the way. I can only see [name_m]Burn[/name_m]-Hard with the second spelling, and it just looks off to me. Plus I guarantee the spelling will be butchered constantly if you spell it “[name_m]Bernhard[/name_m]”, since [name_m]Bernard[/name_m] is such a well-known name.
Thank you all for your imput, looks like [name_m]Bernard[/name_m] has won! Husband has changed his mind and we have settled on the [name_m]Bernard[/name_m] spelling thanks to you guys.
Congratulations!
