What to you think of the name [name]Lottie[/name]? We have a much-loved relative, named [name]Lottie[/name] (that’s her real name, not a nn for [name]Charlotte[/name]), that we are considering naming our future daughter after. If we use this name, I think I would like to have a full name, with [name]Lottie[/name] as the nn. I have been thinking of [name]Charlotte[/name], but then last night I came across [name]Carlotta[/name] - I hadn’t ever considered that. What do you think? Which would you prefer? My husband is ok with either one, but really only because he likes the nn’s [name]Carly[/name] and [name]Lottie[/name]. I also prefer the nn’s to the full names, but I like having the option of the full name (if that makes sence). Is [name]Carlotta[/name] to Italian/Spanish sounding? We are not Italian or spanish, (more a blend of Scottish/Irish/Jewish/etc. :)), so does it seem funny to use an Italian name?
Sorry that was just kind of a jumble of questions and info.
To sumerize…
What do you think of [name]Lottie[/name]? [name]Do[/name] you think there’s teasing potential with ryming - [name]Lottie[/name], potty, hottie… (Or am I over thinking this???)
Which do you prefer, [name]Charlotte[/name] or [name]Carlotta[/name]?
Thank you so much for reading all this - I feel like I don’t have my thoughts very organized here.
I would really appreciate any thoughts, opinions, or advice you could share with me! Thanks in advance!
P.S. If we have a boy we will probably name him [name]Griffin[/name]. [name]Do[/name] you think [name]Lottie[/name]/[name]Charlotte[/name]/[name]Carlotta[/name] goes well as a sister to [name]Griffin[/name]?
[name]Hi[/name]! I love the name [name]Charlotte[/name], nn [name]Lottie[/name]! It is a wonderful, classic French name. [name]Carlotta[/name] is Italian, I believe, with a more exotic feel. Which goes better with your last name?
I love [name]Lottie[/name]! A little girl around 7 came into my place of work last week called [name]Lottie[/name] and she was so sweet, the name suited her very much! I agree with you though that it’s better as a nn for a longer name.
Personally, [name]Carlotta[/name] seems a little harsh and “older” than [name]Charlotte[/name] to me. I’ve always liked [name]Charlotte[/name]. It’s a really lovely classic name with a warm feeling about it and very pretty. I also love the literary connections with [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Bronte[/name] etc.
I like using names form different origins than myself and I wouldn’t think a name like [name]Allegra[/name] or [name]Angelica[/name] or [name]Mirabella[/name] was too Italian to be used by non-Italians, but for some reason [name]Carlotta[/name] seems different to me. Maybe it’s because it seems like it belongs to an older generation? I don’t know! But either way I prefer [name]Charlotte[/name] nn [name]Lottie[/name] and think it’s a lovely choice
[name]Do[/name] you have a middle name picked out? The only other names I can think of that [name]Lottie[/name] could be a nn for (though I prefer [name]Charlotte[/name] over any of these personally) are:
[name]Clotilde[/name]
Heidelotte
Liselot
Lizelotte
[name]Lotta[/name]
[name]Scarlotte[/name] (I love [name]Scarlett[/name] but [name]Scarlotte[/name] seems a little strange to me! Apparently it is a name though!)
Ljanddrl, thanks so much for your input! As far as a middle name, we will probably use [name]Diane[/name]/[name]Diana[/name] (another family name). I really don’t care for the other names that you mentioned that could give the nn [name]Lottie[/name], I much prefer [name]Charlotte[/name] or [name]Carlotta[/name], but thanks for the suggestions.
Kyemsma, thanks for sharing your thoughts with me! I think both [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Carlotta[/name] go fine with our last name wich is two syllables and starts with M.
I prefer [name]Charlotte[/name] to [name]Carlotta[/name] and I also think [name]Charlotte[/name] is the better name for a sister to [name]Griffin[/name].
