Nicknames can really be whatever you want them to be, but if you’re trying to make them a play off the actual name I would say (in my opinion) [name_f]Posy[/name_f] for [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f], [name_f]Molly[/name_f] for [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] and [name_u]Wren[/name_u] for [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] are much of a stretch and would likely have to be explained every time. Usually a nn is like [name_f]Meg[/name_f] for [name_f]Megan[/name_f], [name_f]Beth[/name_f] for [name_f]Bethany[/name_f].
I love [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] ^^
With regards to middle names, I’m all for being creative. But it does seem like you had some nicknames you love and worked pretty hard at getting them to fit with the names you love? I’m also not fond of the ‘rhymes with’ nicknaming style, I only like that with already established nicknames ([name_m]Robert[/name_m] nn [name_m]Hob[/name_m]/Hobbie, [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] nn [name_f]Posy[/name_f], although [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] has the P, if not the sound, in her name so it seems less like a rhyming name and more like a creative one).
For [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] I would love to use [name_f]Etta[/name_f]. Or [name_f]Hetty[/name_f], [name_f]Etty[/name_f]. [name_f]Henny[/name_f]/[name_f]Hennie[/name_f] is a pet form of [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] that’s completely eclipsed the original in Norway. I think [name_f]Hennie[/name_f] is pretty sweet
[name_f]Mae[/name_f] or [name_f]Margot[/name_f] for [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] are fine, but [name_f]Molly[/name_f] for me diminishes [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f]'s elaborate beauty…
[name_f]Elsie[/name_f] for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is fine, but I would like it better for [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f].
[name_f]Posy[/name_f] for [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] is the one I react to the most, however. Probably because I love [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] so much. If you want something other than [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] that ends in the same sound, [name_u]Romy[/name_u] would do it (although I get the same feel from it as [name_f]Molly[/name_f] for [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f]).
If I had a [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] she would be called [name_f]Rosa[/name_f] or [name_f]Rose[/name_f].
I’m not sure I’m into the whole ‘long, elaborate, regal name with a cutesy nickname’ thing you’re going for, but if that’s what you want feel free to disregard my comments [name_f]My[/name_f] advice would be pretty useless to you if we disagree completely about that…
I think [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] and [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] are the strongest of the bunch, both with a really nice flow.
Thank-you berries (and sorry for the late response)!
Really interesting to see, not a lot of love for [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] or [name_f]Albertine[/name_f] (guess I don’t have to worry about them getting to popular lol!) but people seem to like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] a lot - it has family, literary and historical significance for me but I do worry about it being so popular though…
I know some of those nicknames are a bit of a stretch…I’ve just always been a fan of nicknames that don’t seem to obvious - to me it has a bit of 1930s British atmosphere :-).
But I’m really not too hung up on nicknames - just that where I live they are completely unavoidable lol!
I’d love to hear if anyone had any other first/middle combinations based on my names, if one of them sounds a bit better to you with a bit of tweaking etc. I’d also love any completely new first or middle name suggestions derived from the ‘style’ you get from those names!
I voted for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Francesca[/name_f], [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]. As for those nicknames, I think they work well. They’re not the obvious nicknames for the name in question, but I don’t think they’re too much of a stretch either.
I chose [name_f]Albertine[/name_f] [name_f]Viola[/name_f] for its rare vintage look and elegant sound/ flow…it also captures a classic Victorian feel which I like too. Great combo!!
