[name]Just[/name] wondering, what initials do you Berries think lend themselves best as nicknames and do you know any children who have initial nicknames?
Our newborn [name]Quentin[/name] has been Q since day one and he suits it so well, yet this wasn’t a consideration in our naming decision. We actually thought the lack of nickname potential was a bonus!
There’s a little girl at my church I call “B”- her name is [name]Bianca[/name]. I call her B, [name]Bianca[/name] B, [name]Bibi[/name]— it’s fun! She likes it.
Q is super cute.
A little girl I know named [name]Vienna[/name] is V, or Veevee, and a little boy named [name]Brook[/name] is B.
I really like those two best, they seem to just roll off the tongue so easily.
I love the nickname “Z” for someone with a Z name. I actually don’t know of any babes with letter nicknames though. People call my mom and I “T” but we’re far from babies. Lol.
My brother, whose name is [name]Ryan[/name], oddly went by R.P. for most of his childhood. I think it started because there was more than one [name]Ryan[/name] in his class or sports team or something at one point, and the teacher referred to him as “[name]Ryan[/name] P.” which eventually got shortened to “R.P.” and that stuck somehow.
I kinda like initial nicknames though. I think it’s a good thing to consider if you think there’s a chance your child won’t want to go by their given name. Like if you pick a risky “J” name, maybe throw him a bone and give him an “R” middle so he can choose J.R. if he wants.
I went to college with a girl who gave her daughter the name R_(fn)_ E_ (mn)_ D_ (ln)__. It’s a little odd to see a little girl with blond hair be called “little [name]Red[/name]” but it’s also kind of cute.
I thought at first you were referring to nicknames that come from two initials, like E.V. ([name]Evie[/name]), G.G. ([name]Gigi[/name]), K.T. ([name]Katie[/name]), or even just EJ, JJ, etc., all of which I like. But as just one initial, I really love M/[name]Em[/name]. I quite love [name]Bea[/name]/B and V/Vie, too. I probably wouldn’t use them for my future children, because the most likely candidates don’t really sound like names/nicknames to me–I? A? O? E? C? C could work, but the vowels just sound silly! Can you imagine a mom calling out into the park, “Hey, I!” The mom next to you would be like, “Hey, you what?!” bahaha.
If I ever get to use [name]Liliana[/name], though, in addition to calling her [name]Lily[/name], I’ll probably call her L/[name]Elle[/name] some, too, though. I really like that one, too. Although [name]Bella[/name]/[name]Belle[/name] and L/[name]Elle[/name] are a bit close…
We call [name]Blake[/name] “B” all the time (probably more than we actually call him [name]Blake[/name], lol). I also always thought it was cute too how [name]Serena[/name] was called “S” on the show Gossip Girls. Certain initials lend themselves to easy nicknames.
For most of my brothers childhood he went by RP- mainly so there wouldn’t be confusion if someone was calling for [name]Roger[/name]. But I don’t know anyone who goes by their first initial. I like the idea though.
