Best nickname for Colette?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] All,

I was thinking of naming my daughter [name_f]Colette[/name_f]…what do you think of it? Is it too ‘grown up’ sounding? Is it easy to say?

Also, since it seems like every name gets turned into a nickname somehow, do you guys prefer [name_f]Letty[/name_f] or [name_f]Lettie[/name_f]? I like [name_f]Coco[/name_f] too, but that is for only when she is a little baby- she will outgrow that one.

My question is, is [name_f]Letty[/name_f]/[name_f]Lettie[/name_f] a good name if it sticks with her into adulthood?

Thank you for your advice!

I have an Aunt [name_f]Lettie[/name_f](short for [name_f]Letitia[/name_f]) so I definitely think the name ages. My favorite nickname for [name_f]Colette[/name_f] is [name_m]Colie[/name_m]–similar to the nickname for [name_f]Nicole[/name_f]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] a thought.

I’m always all in for a name that allows for [name_f]Lettie[/name_f] as a nickname -and [name_f]Colette[/name_f]'s about as good as it gets, in my opinion! It is very easy to say and spell. As an “-ette” name it’s absolutely suited to a little girl, but it also makes a sophisticated name for an adult woman (something many -ette names fail to do.)

I knew a 60-something year old [name_f]Letty[/name_f] (short for [name_f]Leticia[/name_f]), so I think it absolutely works into adulthood. I know adult women who go by [name_f]Patty[/name_f], [name_f]Katie[/name_f], [name_f]Jenny[/name_f], and [name_f]Carrie[/name_f], and [name_f]Lettie[/name_f] has a similar vibe to it. That said, she might choose to settle into [name_f]Colette[/name_f] at some point, too - but I like that both options are there.

Something about the [name_f]Lettie[/name_f] spelling looks “fuller” to me, and seems more old-fashioned - in a good way - than [name_f]Letty[/name_f].

You could also use [name_f]Etta[/name_f], which I love, but you kinda lose more of [name_f]Colette[/name_f]. [name_f]Lettie[/name_f] is cute–I prefer this spelling–but I think [name_f]Etta[/name_f] is gorgeous.

[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Colette[/name_f], btw.

I really like [name_f]Colette[/name_f]. Idon’t think it necessarily needs a nickname, but I think [name_f]Lettie[/name_f] is pretty cute. I prefer it to [name_f]Coco[/name_f] quite honestly.

I’ve never been a huge fan of [name_f]Colette[/name_f], but I can’t say why. There’s nothing wrong with it–I just like other -ette names more. I do think [name_f]Lettie[/name_f]'s lovely, though–so dainty and sweet, and I can see her aging really well. [name_f]Letty[/name_f] seems more spunky and full of grit and determination (maybe because of the Fast and Furious character?), but [name_f]Lettie[/name_f]'s more dainty and feminine. I think either is great. I think [name_f]Etta[/name_f] could also work, if you’re looking for other nicknames.

I’m in love with the nn [name_f]Lettie[/name_f]! It makes me think of [name_u]Neil[/name_u] Gaiman books and ‘Howl’s Moving Castle’ :D.

I think [name_u]Coley[/name_u] is super cute as a nn for [name_f]Colette[/name_f].

I’m also not a fan of [name_f]Colette[/name_f], but I like [name_f]Coco[/name_f], [name_f]Lettie[/name_f] and [name_f]Etta[/name_f]! It’s interesting how [name_f]Coco[/name_f] makes me picture a child, [name_f]Lettie[/name_f] - a young woman and [name_f]Etta[/name_f] - a middle-aged woman.
