I have a friend named [name]Merissa[/name] and she’s beautiful and really nice, but I actually like all three spellings about the same. Normally I prefer the most conventional spellings of names but occasionally they look better spelled differently. For example I prefer [name]Ashlee[/name] over [name]Ashley[/name] as a girls’ name, I think the double e spelling names the name appear more feminine.
BTW, Is [name]Merissa[/name] simply an alternative phonetical rendering or is it supposed to be a fusion of [name]Marissa[/name] and [name]Melissa[/name]? Because I would pronounce the two the same, with the ə IPA vowel you find in the word ‘the’.
I think [name]Marisa[/name] is the best spelling. I’ve never seen it spelled [name]Merissa[/name], but it feels made-up. I think the simplest spelling is generally best, that’s why I prefer one s.
I agree to veer away from [name]Merissa[/name]. But I do think you should stick with two S’s and spell it [name]MARISSA[/name]. I knew a girl named [name]Marisa[/name] (one S) growing up and she pronounced it MAH-[name]REESE[/name]-A. With that hard i sound… I think [name]Marissa[/name] is the “most common” form of the name and therefore gets my vote!
I agree with the above poster; to me, [name]Marissa[/name] and [name]Marisa[/name] are completely different names, with the latter being pronounced muh-[name]REE[/name]-suh. I like both [name]Marissa[/name] (muh-RISS-uh) and [name]Marisa[/name] (muh-[name]REE[/name]-suh), but I don’t care for [name]Merissa[/name]. Although it has an awesome look that makes me think of “mermaid,” it would constantly be misspelled.
