Bethel?

What do you all think of [name]Bethel[/name]?

No, just no. It’s like that forum about Jimothy. I’m sorry, but [name]Beth[/name] is nice, and [name]Ethel[/name] is charismatic, but [name]Bethel[/name] is not great, I’m sorry.

[name]Bethel[/name]=Brothel. No.

I don’t really like it either. It doesn’t look or sound right to me.

I actually like [name]Bethel[/name]! I don’t know why it’s any worse than any other Biblical place name, like [name]Judah[/name], [name]Bethany[/name], [name]Eden[/name], and [name]Ariel[/name]… I like that she could go by [name]Beth[/name] or [name]Elle[/name], or even [name]Ellie[/name], [name]Ethel[/name], etc.

no no no no no, not a fan. To me it’s an unattractive sound.

This is interesting, because I’m not especially fond of [name]Beth[/name] or [name]Ethel[/name]. [name]Beth[/name] is boring to me and I think I have a few too many bad associations with it, and [name]Ethel[/name] I want to like but just can’t get on board with somehow. The B sound in front sort of softens it to my ear? I’m sure that sounds absolutely crazy.

I think that Jimothy’s awful as well, but I guess the situations differ for me because [name]Bethel[/name] has history that doesn’t have anything to do with [name]Beth[/name] or [name]Ethel[/name], whereas Jimothy was an unabashed smush.

Thanks everyone for your responses! You don’t need to feel sorry for negative responses or constructive criticism - that’s half of the beauty of these boards. I wouldn’t post if I didn’t want honesty.

Fwiw I got the Biblical reference…I like it better than [name]Ethel[/name], but still think it’s a little too clunky for primetime…Bethlehem would be a kind of cool middle though (and [name]Bethel[/name] seems wearable in the middle). It makes me think of bezel, like on jewelry, and that’s kind of pretty.

No. [name]Don[/name]'t like it at all. Stick to [name]Beth[/name] or [name]Ethel[/name].
[name]How[/name] about Bethenny instead?

Bethenny is all Bethenny Frankel to me. I never really understood what the allure of that spelling was for her parents. [name]Bethany[/name] is okay, but it’s pretty much in the exact same category as [name]Beth[/name] to me - nice, but rather boring and bland.

There’s a fair few Baptist Churchs called(named?) [name]Bethel[/name] in the city I live in. I have to say I don’t find it attractive, I think it’s the “ethel” sound. I really dislike the name [name]Ethel[/name].
Have you thought about [name]Bethan[/name]? It’s the Welsh form of [name]Elizabeth[/name].
If you like it, go for it, children generally carry off their names, bar the really bizarre ([name]Gage[/name]?!).

All I can think of is a Jewish [name]Temple[/name] which is not a bad thing at all but I cant picture it as a baby name

I find it interesting and girly.
